Story
If your funny older sister were the former deputy chief of staff to President Barack Obama, her behind-the-scenes political memoir would sound something like this. Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? is an intimate and admiring portrait of a president, a candid book of advice for young women, and a promising debut from a savvy political star.

I thought that Alyssa was delightful and her tidbits of the Obama administration was exactly what I thought it would be. It was fun hearing her personal triumphs and faults made her come alive. I saw that she has written another book and I hope that she is the narrator too because I plan on purchasing it.

I knew a great deal of what the book was saying but the author put the information in a laid out fashion which made it easier to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone who will listen to it with an open mind and then do your own research.

I love all of the behind information that is told. With the highly acclaimed Downton Abbey I purchased the 3 seasons scripts with the notes, I wished that they had continued that for all of the seasons. So, here’s hoping that these books keep up to date throughout all of the upcoming seasons.

I was entranced with the story from Mary Trump, she finally answered the question of why D Trump acts as he does. She is intelligent, wise and caring, everything that D Trump is not. I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed listening to A Mother’s Journey, I felt immersed in the families. I rejoiced with them and cried with during their sorrows. I have listened to several of Donna Douglas books and I plan on listening to many more.
I recommend both this author and the narrator.

Hill walked alongside Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and Gerald R. Ford, seeing them through a long, tumultuous era - the Cold War; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. History brought alive

I was a preschooler and then an elementary student when Eisenhower was President. Even though I lived during all of these events, there are the 2 that stand out the most. The Kennedy assassination when I was in JR Hi science class when the teacher rolled a black and white tv into the room. Then next was the watergate hearings, I sat glued to the tv with my baby and toddler next to me.
It was a hard walk through history, now I watch the news about the impending impeachment of trump. I feel like I am living history again, what will be the outcome, will our nation be able to withstand and come back together? I do hope so.

Fascinating book
Reviewed: 08-01-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Nightingale Girls to be better than the print version?
I am listening to this in the audible version. Often while listening to an audio book it is hard to keep the characters straight but in The Nightengale Girls I didn't have any problem at all. The characters were brought to life and I had a hard time stopping while I was listening to it. I always have a book going while in the car, with this book I would park my car at my destination and not get out because I felt like I was actually one of the nurses in training.
What did you like best about this story?
I would have a hard time trying to pick just one area that I liked best, they were all good.
Which character – as performed by Penelope Freeman – was your favorite?
I could totally relate to Dora, I loved her ambition and her kindness. She was sexually abused by her step father but the author didn't go into graphic detail, just how it made her feel repulsed by him. I could picture her from the discription and I enjoyed her voice the best.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Even when the young ladies were working hard at their studies and long hours on the wards, I found myself rooting for most of them and the patients were often funny or so sad and I could relate to both sides of the "bed".
Any additional comments?
I would highly recommend this book and the whole series, I am on book 4 now and none of them disappoint. There is just one character that I find the "voice" irritating to listen to. Thankfully she is more of a minor role so it isn't too much of a bother. I won't say her name, I'm sure that you will be able to figure out who she is when you come to her.
