Sad
Reviewed: 02-09-24
I listened to this with my 11 year old son and we both agreed that it was sad. The ending didn't provide any real closure and we both felt let down. It's a decent "read" with a lot of drama for both the boy and fox but it was depressing all the way around.

Story
Akart's standalone novel, ARkStorm, is based on actual events. In 1861, a 43-day series of atmospheric rivers, huge flows of moisture carried from the tropics to the West Coast, turned large swaths of California into an inland sea. The intense rainstorms pounded the state unabated with little respite. Rivers became raging torrents that swept away entire communities, killing thousands. The State’s Central Valley turned a massive body of water 300-miles long and 20-miles wide.

Horrible. I quit with 40 min left.
Reviewed: 02-11-22
I quit listening with 1.5 chapters left. It was that bad. The author is very amateur and failed all logic and scientific research. I'm not a bat expert but I don't need to be one to know this is all crap. Good thing this was free.

Story
He was a survivor - a wanderer who traded tales for food and shelter in the dark and savage aftermath of a devastating war. Fate touches him one chill winter’s day when he borrows the jacket of a long-dead postal worker to protect himself from the cold. The old, worn uniform still has power as a symbol of hope, and with it he begins to weave his greatest tale, of a nation on the road to recovery. This is the story of a lie that became the most powerful kind of truth.

If you liked the movie don't listen to the book!

Terrible. Just terrible. How Hollywood managed to script this into a watchable movie is totally beyond me. The story line seems to be all over the place with no logic or reason and I only finished it so I could complain about it in its full horrible glory to my husband.
Random themes run thru this book: hard core feminism, AI, genetically engineered soldiers, mistrust of government, and men hating to give a few. Thank goodness it was free bc no one would pay for it.

I just couldn't get into this series. It's a monster story, so I could accept that, but the main character, Meg, was written ridiculously badly. She isn't a likeable character and I couldn't wait for her to be savagely eaten. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
I made it thru the first book and half way thru the 2nd before I gave up. No way I could make it thru another 11 hours. The reader didn't help. He was too monotone and it made a boring story even worse.
