Such a great read

This is one of the best book I read about Rwanda. The narrator is highly professional and kept me engaged from chap. 1 to the end. Emma is such a great story teller. At times i had to check if I’m still listening to a true story not a fictional novel. Highly recommended.

Story
This memoir tells the story of Dr. Joseph Sebarenzi, whose parents, seven siblings, and countless other family members were among 800,000 Tutsi brutally murdered over the course of 90 days in 1994 by extremist Rwandan Hutu - an efficiency that exceeded even that of the Nazi Holocaust. Outbreaks of ethnic violence had been occurring in Rwanda since colonial times when the Belgians ruled the region. As a child, Sebarenzi twice hid with his mother during episodes of killing, narrowly escaping with his life.

This a great book. Highly recommended. Could not put it down until finished. The narration and performance was incredibly engaging. The story, though it is a sad story of setbacks after setbacks, the book omes across nicely with intriguing plots as if it’s a novel. Outstanding quality that you rarely get from this kind of memoir.

Story
The Barefoot Woman is the story of the author’s mother, a fierce, loving woman who for years protected her family from the violence encroaching upon them in pre-genocide Rwanda. Recording her memories of their life together in spare, wrenching prose, Mukasonga preserves her mother’s voice in a haunting work of art.

He's been called "America's greatest living tailor" and "the most interesting man in the world." Now, for the first time, Holocaust survivor Martin Greenfield tells his whole, incredible life story. Taken from his Czechoslovakian home at age 15 and transported to the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz with his family, Greenfield came face-to-face with "Angel of Death" Dr. Joseph Mengele and was divided forever from his parents, sisters, and baby brother. In haunting, powerful prose, Greenfield remembers his desperation and fear as a teenager alone in the death camp.

Story
When Rosamond Halsey Carr first arrived in Africa, she didn't realize that she would spend the rest of her life there. As a young fashion illustrator living in New York City in the 1940s, she seemed the least likely candidate for such a life of adventure. But marriage to a hunter-explorer took her to what was then the Belgian Congo, and divorce left her determined to stay on in neighboring Rwanda as the manager of a flower plantation.

Great stories in general. However, the author should have recognized that they knew little about The history of Rwanda or Congo and the genocide against the Tutsi in particular. Her account of rwandan independance and congolese independance is also far from the truth. It particularly infuriating to label the hero of congo decolonization, Patrice Lumumba, as a bad guy because he wanted his country unified and free from belgian tyrany. Great work overall. RIP Rosy

This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.
