Story
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

We go through Life the Best we Can

So raw, so happy, so tragic, so sad and heartbreaking that one doesn’t know when to laugh or cry. One of the most honest and thoughtful books I’ve ever felt so deeply inside. What humans can endure and for what, is the question and we’ll all come up with different answers. God bless this family, both American Royalty and life as we all must go through. 💔❤️

How it affected me so emotionally. Related to it more than you know. Loved characters, and the family full of love. The tragedies and the overcoming of them. My only dislike was how deep in detail all the gaming became. I see how it was needed to fit into the story but I almost gave up from disinterest. Glad I didn’t because the rest of the story made up for it. 😀👍🏻

The beautiful young woman is perfectly still, curled up in the trunk of the car, her long dark hair hiding her face. Her cotton blouse has ridden up a little, revealing two small dots an inch apart on her back. Just like the others. Guilt has kept FBI Agent Tori Hunter away from her home in Manchester Bay, Minnesota for 20 years, ever since her twin sister disappeared on the Fourth of July, when the girls should have been together. But when she receives an anonymous newspaper clipping about another missing girl, Genevieve, Tori is dragged back to the past.

Liked the book question a lot but at times it dragged so much with some unnecessary side stories which made me almost give up. But story and characters were worth it so I stayed with it. It got better as the end was drawing near. I believe if the author could cut down a bit on the unnecessarily details and side stories such as Tori going to another case and back, I’d have given it a 5* rating. Overall a great writer and good storyteller.

Story
Elvis Presley is a giant figure in American popular culture, a man whose talent and fame were matched only by his later excesses and tragic end. A godlike entity in the history of rock and roll, this twentieth-century icon with a dazzling voice blended gospel and rhythm and blues with country to create a completely new kind of music and new way of expressing male sexuality, which blew the doors off a staid and repressed 1950s America. In Being Elvis, veteran rock journalist Ray Connolly takes a fresh look at the career of the world's most loved singer.

Elvis Lives On
Reviewed: 08-19-22
All in all a good book. Somewhat superficial compared to other Elvis books. Was getting the feeling some parts were the author putting himself in Elvis’s head and surmising what he may have been thinking. The best writing was his words after the death of Elvis. His description of his extremely unique voice singing from bass to baritone to tenor and into falsetto was beautifully done. His death and his height of popularity to this day was tried to explain why his life after death has grown and never stopped. Great quotes and tributes from other musicians was a real tear jerker. His death and afterwards was treated respectfully, poignantly and emotionally. A reading of his many hits and songs was wonderful. Especially this year (2022), after the blockbuster movie Elvis came out, there seems to be evidence of a new generation discovering him and his wonderful passion for being so emotive when he sings is inspiring and his popularity just keeps growing. He really is a legend & a musical and cultural icon. Thrust into a unfathomable world of fame at such a young age and fighting the establishment in the 50’s changed music, fashion and with that fame, for decades, I’m not sure many people could have dealt with it. As we’ve seen since in many cases. Whitney Houston once said” success is wonderful, it’s the fame that kills you”.

Gary Tillery presents a coherent view of Elvis' thoughts through such anecdotes and other recorded facts. We learn, for instance, that Elvis read thousands of books on religion; that his crisis over making mindless movies like Girl Happy led him to writers such as Gurdjieff, Krishnamurti, and Helena Blavatsky; and that, while driving in Arizona, an epiphany inspired him to learn Hindu practice. Elvis came to believe that the Christ shines in everyone and that God wanted him to use his light to uplift people.

Excellent book about the spiritual life of Elvis Presley. Fair, respectful but honest too. The mystery of Elvis died with him, but there was something there that made him an exceptional human being. With all his flaws and foibles, people have always sensed a uniquely talented, gifted & humbled man who became so iconic that it did change him , but we must remember he was human & not many people starting so young could handle that type of fame. His real thoughts died with him and we can only know so much what another person thinks by others that knew him. But only he really knew the turmoil, suffering and unbelievable happiness he felt inside throughout his life. A complicated man indeed but still beloved my new generations till this day. 45 yrs this year (2022) since his death & after a new theatrical release on the big screen has renewed a curiosity in those who are just learning about this remarkable and unusual man who certainly moved to the beat of a different drum & maintained his own individuality in spite of having to fight his way to where he became someone so famous he’s known world wide by his first name. This is one man I wish had written a diary, journal or memoir. But if you listen to his music as the yrs went by, he was so emotive that many times one knew in their soul they were autobiographical. His passion hits people unexpectedly that they don’t even realize what happened until it’s done and tears are running down their cheeks without even knowing why. His Gospel music is so inspirational that it can pick you up if you believe or not. Good book and I recommend this to anyone, fan or not.

Twists and unexpected turns throughout. Times when it dragged while item after its was discussed, but it made the story more realistic.

Excellent story of Jerry and Elvis and their bond and deep true friendship. Elvis called on Jerry even when he wasn’t with him. I believe Jerry didn’t always take what Elvis tried to dish out and in the long run there became a deeper bond because it was built on honestly and loyalty. I’ve seen interviews with Jerry and I’ve always liked him the best. Great read if you like Elvis and how he related to people.

Memories of life
Reviewed: 12-04-20
I love her authenticity. She was a wise, wonderful woman who was funny, loving and yet I love her feistiness in which she didn’t allow people to walk all over her. She was true to herself & we can all be drawn into situations in which we may get stuck because of our emotions. She was strong enough & wise enough to see the signs and was able to walk away to something special & wonderful through the years. As her mom said to her at the start” don’t let anyone do this to you June, make sure no one does this to you!”. Referring to her own husband walking out on her daughter & herself. June did not do that and her way of decision making was both mature & pragmatic. God bless her. I heard she’s not feeling well & is in a facility to help her. I pray for strength she’s always had to carry her through this now regardless of the outcome. I’m rooting for her always. 💕🕺🏼🕺🏼❤️
