Story
The year is 2380. The Intersolar Commonwealth, a sphere of stars some 400 light-years in diameter, contains more than 600 worlds, interconnected by a web of transport "tunnels" known as wormholes. At the farthest edge of the Commonwealth, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the impossible: Over 1,000 light-years away, a star...vanishes. It does not go supernova. It does not collapse into a black hole. It simply disappears.

Enjoyed

Original storyline that left me guessing and wanting more. Solid performance. Struggled at times with all the characters and settings but typically only at the very beginning of some chapters and quickly connected the dots as the chapter got going (which may say more about my memory than the authors writing).

Good Solid Story that Kept Me Interested
Reviewed: 11-26-23
It won't win any book awards, but it was a good solid story on par with a Dirk Pitt adventure mixed with sci-fi. Solid performance from Scott Brick. Overall a nice light read that kept me interested enough to add Michael Grumley to my reading list.

Story
Zahra knew every detail of the plan. House of Wisdom, a massive exploration vessel, had been abandoned by the government of Earth a decade earlier, when a deadly virus broke out and killed everyone on board in a matter of hours. But now it could belong to her people if they were bold enough to take it. All they needed to do was kidnap Jaswinder Bhattacharya - the sole survivor of the tragedy, and the last person whose genetic signature would allow entry to the spaceship.

Good writing but the story could have been tighter
Reviewed: 03-31-22
I liked the characters. I liked the writing. I liked the performance. I liked the story. I just thought the plot could have been a little tighter. it lost focus towards the end.with the primary threat all but disappearing as the author reflected on the philosophical need for.governments (an aunt that was barely in the story previously) and individuals to be our brother's keeper.
They were good points and well written; they just would have worked better had they been more woven into the story instead of tacked on to the end.

In the shadow of Mount Hood, 16-year-old Tennant is checking rabbit traps with her eight-year-old sister Sophie when the girls are suddenly overcome by a strange vibration rising out of the forest, building in intensity until it sounds like a deafening crescendo of screams. From out of nowhere, their father sweeps them up and drops them through a trapdoor into a storm cellar. But the sound only gets worse....

Not what I expected
Reviewed: 01-28-22
I haven't read Patterson prior to this and wasn't expecting such a sci-fi driven tale or for the story to be so sweeping in scope . It had me wondering where the story was going right to the end. A very enjoyable listen.

Story
Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

Story
The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

A haunted house story that would have done Stephen King proud. Vivid horror and a story line that carried it through.
