Story
What’s in a label? Are we the product of our upbringing or do we have a natural propensity towards good or evil? The eternal question of nature vs nurture is at the centre of Dr Diane Buckley’s world. A talented freelance forensic psychologist who has never quite found the key to engaging with people on a casual level, she is drafted in to examine a grisly murder – a body found in a children’s playground.

I found the background noises very distracting. I enjoy reading and using my imagination and this was more like listening to a radio program.

I just started the book but wondered, why didn't Jude tell the police to find the cab driver that she got the ride from? This would have given them a starting place in the city.

I'm not into ghost stories.

What disappointed you about Nightshade?
I should have paid better attention to the "haunt" word used in the description.
Has Nightshade turned you off from other books in this genre?
For sure.
What three words best describe Chet Green’s performance?
It would be unfair of me to base his performance on a story that is not my genre.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Nightshade?
Is all of them too harsh?
Any additional comments?

Story
Shyima Hall was born in Egypt on September 29, 1989, the seventh child of desperately poor parents. When she was eight, her parents sold her into slavery. Shyima then moved two hours away to Egypt's capitol city of Cairo to live with a wealthy family and serve them eighteen hours a day, seven days a week. When she was ten, her captors moved to Orange County, California, and smuggled Shyima with them. Two years later, an anonymous call from a neighbor brought about the end of Shyima's servitude - but her journey to true freedom was far from over.

What did you like best about Hidden Girl? What did you like least?
Though the title was very thought provoking. I became very frustrated by the redundancy.
Would you ever listen to anything by Shyima Hall and Lisa Wysocky again?
Probably not.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I cannot blame the narrator - they can only read what is written.
Could you see Hidden Girl being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
It would take an excellent screen writer.
