Story
What happens when a woman seeking an abortion is turned away? To answer this question, Diana Greene Foster assembled a team of scientists—psychologists, epidemiologists, demographers, nurses, physicians, economists, sociologists, and public health researchers—to conduct a 10-year study. They followed a thousand women from across America, some of whom received abortions, some of whom were turned away. Now, for the first time, Dr. Foster presents the results of this landmark study in one extraordinary, groundbreaking book.

So important for us to read
Reviewed: 05-27-22
With the recent opinion from the Supreme Court majority, it's so important for us to study the long term and short terms affects of receiving and being denied wanted abortions. We need the statistical data and the personal stories from women who have made the decision to end their pregnancy and what came of the decision.
This study has grounded my decision more firmly on the side of women. Every woman's story is different and only she knows what's best for her and her current or future family.
This book version of the findings was a very easy listen. The readers did an excellent job capturing each woman's voice.

Story
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

I wish they didn't bleep out the curse words. But other than that, I really enjoyed the content of the book so much so that I'm buying a hard copy.

This book is amazing! the story grabbed my attention and held it for the entire story. I am a white bi, cis-woman, feminist from a medium city on the east coast (nowhere near NYC) but Juliet's journey of self discovery and finding her voice really resonated with me. The way Rivera writes & describes through Juilet's voice about fears, insecurities, doubts, questions, racism, sexism, family, love, & emotion connect deeply with me. The author is honest about everything, including hard topics like white feminism and how harmful it can be to POC and transwomen.

A Life Changer

I am so excited that Brené Brown is narrating in this 10th anniversary edition of The Gifts of Imperfection. Her voice bryb d xings life to her work. She really embraces the storyteller role when she reads any of her books.
On top of this being an easy listen because of the narration, Brené Brown's research is life changing. I was introduced to her work by my therapist during my own unraveling. Brené Brown has a Netflix special, a podcast, TEDtalks, several books, and a website full of great resources. I personally plan on re-listening to this book while I go on walks or drives to relax, reflect, and continue to commit to a wholehearted life.

Every American Should Read This Report
Reviewed: 07-03-19
The Mueller Report reads like a spy novel at times. It's crazy to think how much Russians influenced Americans through social media and encouraging rallies and protests. This report highlights the fact that you should ALWAYS check the source of your news. Infact, it's best to go straight to the source and formulate your own opinion. Which is why I believe every American should go straight to the source and read the Mueller Report for themselves. Do not rely on politicians and news outlets who put their own biases on the report to spoon feed you information.

It makes me SICK!
Reviewed: 01-07-19
It makes me SICK to think that our government officials have supported big businesses and big banks over the wellfare of its middle and lower classes. It makes me SICK to finally understand how much money from millionaires, billionaires, and corporations influence our elected officials and policy. It makes me SICK to see how far we've fallen, how far the American Dream has fallen. It makes me SICK to realize I've been blinded by my ignorance.
But no more! This fight is OUR fight. This fight is MY fight. The Power of the People is GREATER than the People in Power.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Dresden Files. The idea of the story fascinates me, but the first few books, including this one have a decent amount of fan service when describing women and their bodies. I'm hoping with the ending of book 3, the character and author will grow out of this and maybe get some stronger female characters in there.
