Story
Northern California, during the violent end of the 1960s. At the start of summer, a lonely and thoughtful teenager, Evie Boyd, sees a group of girls in the park and is immediately caught by their freedom, their careless dress, their dangerous aura of abandon. Soon Evie is in thrall to Suzanne, a mesmerizing older girl, and is drawn into the circle of a soon-to-be infamous cult and the man who is its charismatic leader.

Highly recommending this book!
Emma Cline's short and clipped way of writing draws you in and places you in the world she's created. I couldn't stop once I started.
This book is brutal and honest- nothing is sugar coated and can be shocking at times but that's what made the story hard to put down. A really raw point of view on a young girls need to fit in and the feelings and experiences that come with growing up and finding your place.
I listened to the audible version and it added so much to the story- great performance by the narrator!

Story
Thirty-four-year-old marine biologist Kyra Winthrop remembers nothing about the diving accident that left her with a complex form of memory loss. With only brief flashes of the last few years of her life, her world has narrowed to a few close friendships on the island where she lives with her devoted husband, Jacob. But all is not what it seems. Kyra begins to have visions - or are they memories? - of a rocky marriage, broken promises, and cryptic relationships with the island residents, whom she believes to be her friends.

Great Read!

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. I immediately felt in sync with the main character and couldn't wait to unravel her story.
The storyline reminds me of The Girl On The Train- dark deception that slowly reveals itself through memories and flashbacks. I loved the way the flashbacks were seamlessly intertwined into the present day narrative.
It was a tiny bit slow and repetitive in some parts and I would have liked the 'big reveal' (of Kyra finding out the truth) to go on a bit longer without Jacob finding out- the ending came very quickly for me. That being said I still really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good and easy mystery read!
+ the audible narration is two thumbs up!
