BROUGHT ME BACK HOME TO WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE!
Reviewed: 12-14-19
I read Autobiography of a Yogi for the first time in 1975 on an airplane on my way to bury my father. It opened a whole world to me. Its easy to forget that world and get caught up in what is not important. This listening experience has brought me back home to what is indeed important: Our connection to the divine, call it what you want.

Story
What Hinduism needed, amidst the general disintegration of the modern era, was a rock where she could lie at anchor, an authoritative utterance in which she might recognize her self. And this was given to her, in these words and writings of the Swami Vivekananda. What Hinduism had needed, was the organizing and consolidating of its own idea. What the world had needed was a faith that had no fear of truth. Both these are found here.

"Spectacular" is a mild word for describing the strange experiment with life that comprises the story of Nikola Tesla, and "amazing" fails to do adequate justice to the results that burst from his experiences like an exploding rocket. It is the story of the dazzling scintillations of a superman who created a new world.

There are a lot of books about Tesla out there. But because the author of this book was actually a friend and knew him as well as anyone could, I found this a very insightful view of the "superman" genius.

Story
In the milky mountains, upon the lofty summit known as Altar Peak, stand the spacious and somber ruins of a monastery once famous as the ARK. Traditions would link it with an antiquity so hoary as the Flood. Numerous legends have been woven about the Ark, but the one most current on the tongues of local mountaineers among whom I chanced to spend a certain summer in the shade of Altar Peak is the following: Many years after the great Deluge, Noah and his family, and his family’s increase, drifted into the Milky Mountains.

The first part of this audiobook comprises several lectures to classes delivered by the present author in New York. The second part is a rather free translation of the aphorisms (sutras) of Patanjali, with a running commentary. Effort has been made to avoid technicalities as far as possible and to keep to the free and easy style of conversation.

Story
The purpose of existence: No one can follow it down through the ages without realizing that the whole purpose of existence is growth. Life is dynamic - not static. It is ever moving forward - not standing still. The one unpardonable sin of nature is to stand still, to stagnate. It is for men and women who are not ready to stand still, who refuse to cease to grow, that this book is written. It will give you a clearer understanding of your own potentialities, show you how to work with and take advantage of the infinite energy all about you.
