About this listen

In the milky mountains, upon the lofty summit known as Altar Peak, stand the spacious and somber ruins of a monastery once famous as the ARK. Traditions would link it with an antiquity so hoary as the Flood. Numerous legends have been woven about the Ark, but the one most current on the tongues of local mountaineers among whom I chanced to spend a certain summer in the shade of Altar Peak is the following: Many years after the great Deluge, Noah and his family, and his family’s increase, drifted into the Milky Mountains, where they found fertile valleys, abundant streams, and a most equable climate. There they decided to settle.

Very Deep Mystic and Philosophical Book.

Its value is the way it liberates mind from veils. It lifts veils lying on intelligence one by one. Not everyone can comprehend its compact message. I read paperbook. When I heard audio book at slow speed, many meanings became more clear. It is a mystical philosophical book.

Unique And Entertaining Story of Wisdom

This was an inspiring story of religious values of a very a different world. I also enjoyed the various characterizations. Apparently this book was on the top of Osho's recommended spiritual books of the 20 Century.

ENLIGHTENING!

Never heard of this book until I was reading a review of another such book that referred to it. It was a good listen for me and just what I needed at the time.

Narrator continually BOTCHED the text

I'm sorry but this narrator really BOTCHED the text in too many places . The Book Of Mirdad deserves better..

Though he had a mellow, kind voice The narrator misquoted the text a 100 of times . Either he left a word out or added a word or substituted one word for another or put in a long pause that broke the flow of consciousness

Just a few examples of BOTCHING the text : :

TEXT : "A day ESTATIC with beat of the wings of freedom"
Narrator : " A day ELASTIC with the beat of the wings of freedom"

TEXT : How trite is all else in comparison >NARRATOR : all else is trite in comparison

TEXT : Let Understanding DAWN in your heart NARRATOR :"Let Understanding be DRAWN from you heart"

He also broke the natural flow of the narrative by pausing in inappropriate places . For example :

Text : “no voice to bolster up his waning courage and steel his rapidly failing strength,”
Narrator: “ No voice to bolster up (LONG PAUSE) His courage waning – His strength rapidly failing “

TEXT : To his indescribable delight he saw some delicate tufts of grass sprouting here and yon.
NRARRATOR : To his indescribable delight he saw some delicate tufts of grass sprouting( 2 second pause ) here and yon.”

Then there are places where the text was wrong and a good narrator would have corrected it :

For example :
TEXT : then are they made to bite the dust while the sleepwalker at THOSE they shrugged their shoulders
CORRECTED :” then are they made to bite the dust while the sleepwalker at WHOM they shrugged their shoulders "
But the narrator read it : “then are they made to bite the dust while the sleepwalker at THOSE they shrugged their shoulders”(TYPO and all :) 🙄

His metre was off for “NIGHT THE PEERLESS SINGER”

Hopefully they will do another recording with a more accurate narrator or with someone directing this narrator

The book of mirdad Deserves better that have its text botched

Stunning book

This book is for those with ears to hear and eyes to see, it has very deep, mystical experience, where everything shrinks down to - one world one man one God! Excellent performance!!!

Great story but...

I know this story well.
the narrator has a great public speaking voice and may be an accomplished public speaker but he doesn’t seem to be a voice actor or at least he doesn’t seem at all to connect with the material and the reading is often barely out of a monotone. Some words are also misread. Emotions of some dialogue is just odd.
I don’t think this is a well-produced audiobook.

I can’t manage to listen to more than the first two chapters.
