Iconic, but wish Ben Smith read it

Amazing book if you are interested in digital media and it’s larger effects and history. Wish Ben Smith had done the reading himself though!

Story
Drawing on a wealth of untapped archival materials and the reports of generations of family members - mayors, judges, scholars, diplomats, and journalists - The Hundred Years' War on Palestine upends accepted interpretations of the conflict, which tend, at best, to describe a tragic clash between two peoples with claims to the same territory. Instead, Khalidi traces a hundred years of colonial war on the Palestinians, waged first by the Zionist movement and then Israel, but backed by Britain and the United States, the great powers of the age.

Maybe not the best on audio
Reviewed: 01-18-23
This was a great overview, but probably better read from paper than over audio. Definitely gets into the weeds enough where you’ll want some time to process.

Pretty out of touch
Reviewed: 01-06-23
Perry’s narration is great, but even as a memoir, this reads as pretty out of touch with other peoples realities and overly self-indulgent.

Story
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

I was impressed that MO was able to find the words for another great book so quickly after her first. Despite appearances, i felt like this one wove buographical stories with lessons and advice well, without being overbearing.

Story
The spring of 2017 should have been the greatest time of Cat Marnell’s life. She was 34 and living the New York glamour life downtown, with a thriving career and a best-selling memoir. Instead, it was one of the worst. She’d gone through a protracted and traumatic breakup, nearly run out of money, and, during a month-long binge, "done something horrible" to herself that she couldn’t undo. Her troubles mounting, Marnell makes a radically simple choice: She decides to leave her problems behind.

More diary than memoir
Reviewed: 12-07-22
I didn’t dislike this, but it is much more diary than memoir, and so felt a little flat compared to how to murder your life. But if you like cat and want more this is a fun listen.
