Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Honest and Thoughtful
Reviewed: 11-03-19
Demi has had a life that revolved around other people, yet has been accused constantly of thinking only for herself. This book is essential reading for anyone wanting to learn more about her, of course. But also about human trafficking, the Hollywood machine, sexism in all aspects of life, addiction, motherhood... the list goes on. It's like a textbook on life as a woman of her time, for all the time she has lived.

Story
Save Me the Waltz is the first and only novel by the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. During the years when Fitzgerald was working on Tender Is the Night, Zelda Fitzgerald was preparing her own story, which parallels the narrative of her husband, throwing a fascinating light on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life and work. In its own right, it is a vivid and moving story: the confessions of a famous, slightly doomed glamour girl of the affluent 1920s, which captures the spirit of an era.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Laughed and Cried So Dang Hard - but NOT FOR KIDS
Reviewed: 01-15-18
I got the Audible of this and thought it would be a good one for a car trip with my kids. Yea, no. Found out fast that this stuff is HEAVY. I have teens, and while this wasn't anything worse than they would read in a Buzzfeed comment section, it was super intense. I had to pause so many times to go into what she was saying and follow that rabbit hole of conversation, it just got to be too much. I wound up finishing the book on my own, and giving them the highlights. When they get to be adults, I'll buy them each a copy. It's worth it.

Story
Nineteen-year-old Greg Sestero met Tommy Wiseau at an acting school in San Francisco. Wiseau's scenes were rivetingly wrong, yet Sestero, hypnotized by such uninhibited acting, thought, "I have to do a scene with this guy." That impulse changed both of their lives. The Disaster Artist is Greg Sestero's laugh-out-loud funny account of how Tommy Wiseau defied every law of artistry, business, and friendship to make "the Citizen Kane of bad movies" ( Entertainment Weekly), which is now an international phenomenon.

Required Reading for Life

I feel as though this should be on a required reading list in school. It's like a modern day Gatsby. Absolutely incredible. I've only ever seen clips of The Room on YouTube. When I saw a movie was coming out, based on this book, I knew I had to read it. And now I want to buy a dozen copies of The Room to share with family and friends. What a journey it was, hearing everything Tommy has been through and thought of and done to make this movie. Can any of us claim to have even done half as much to realize a dream?

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

This review is for everyone who complained when Trevor replaced Jon. They said he lacked experience. Please, buy this book. Jon was no idiot in picking him. Trevor has lived the life everyone is afraid of. He's experienced multiple situations that exist as threats on Fox News and fears on CNN. When he gives an interview, it is from a position of truth, personal experience and empathy. Through it all, he still sees beauty and humor in the world. Please buy this book. Share it. Reference it. Bert Kreischer doesn't know how to say "no." If he did, he wouldn't have gotten himself mixed up with a group of Russian mobsters on a class trip to Moscow, earning him his nickname: "The Machine." He wouldn't have wrestled with a bear or swum with sharks on national television. He wouldn't have (possibly) smoked PCP with a star of Saturday Night Live. And he wouldn't have been named the Number One Partier in the Nation by Rolling Stone, inspired the movie National Lampoon's Van Wilder, or performed standup to sellout crowds across the country.
