This is the most enjoyable audiobook experience I've ever had. The story is delightful and the narration is a tour de force. I don't think I would have enjoyed the book nearly as much if I'd read it myself. I think I would have found the narrative tone a bit off-putting and not my usual cup of tea. But Ray Porter is so genuine with the emotional delivery of the characters and does such an amazing job with the many different voices, that he makes it all work so entertainingly and I was caught up the entire time. What is the audiobook equivalent of a "page turner"? Whatever that term is, it applies here -- the 16 hours flew by and I wish there were 16 more to go!

Michael Prichard is a master at reading Nero Wolfe stories. This is one of my favorites, part of the Triple Zeck series. Scenes with Nancy Lee are a hoot!!!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Intriguing "page" turner and so thoroughly enjoyed Caroline Lee! Am about to buy my next book read by her!

After having heard snippets of Stephen Fry's reading, I don't understand why we in the American market should be barred from accessing his fantastic work. As for Jim Dale's reading, just listen to the misplaced stress where the story compares/contrasts Mr. Dursley's lack of neck to Mrs. Dursley over-abundance of the same. His presentation totally ignores that a compare/contrast is happening. So irritating, and such ill-chosen moments of stress/emphasis are throughout Dale's reading. I find it shockingly poorly wrought. I listen to it only because it's all I've got of one of my favorite stories. Audible -- give us Stephen Fry's version!!

Maybe the details would be more interesting to read and easier to follow than they are while listening to the story, but despite a fine reading by Wil Wheaton, I am not captivated by all the scientific jargon that does little to capture what is an extraordinary adventure. I can't listen to it.

I initially was disappointed in this version of a favorite book but have come to really like it. After listening to it more I have come to fully appreciate Susan O'Malley's work. It's effective and being a little more low-key than Barbara Rosenblat's style is actually a nice change of pace when wanted.

Would you try another book from Elizabeth Peters and/or Susan O'Malley?
I had assumed that the reader would be Barbara Rosenblat, who is the perfect voice for this series. Only after purchasing did I find out that it had a different narrator. While Susan O'Malley is fine, she just can't much Barbara, and I'm very disappointed and will have to track down the version by Barbara Rosenblat elsewhere.

What other book might you compare Crocodile on the Sandbank to and why?
These are fun, fun books. I can't think of other series like these -- Egyptology, Victorian Romance, mystery.

Would you be willing to try another one of Susan O'Malley’s performances?
No.

Any additional comments?
I'm disappointed.
