About this listen

"My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died...."

Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret - something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive....

Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all - she's an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia - or each other - but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

Acclaimed author Liane Moriarty has written a gripping, thought-provoking novel about how well it is really possible to know our spouses - and, ultimately, ourselves.

This is an excellent book that beautifully builds and draws you into the lives of three ordinary Australian women during extraordinary circumstances. The secrets that lie at the heart of each of them are easy to relate to and told masterfully. It is that wonderful mix of complex charcter study and great plot that makes you form a love/hate relationship with each of the characters. Caring so much about what comes next makes it hard to put down. This is the perfect summer read/book club/gift book because you'll want to run out and find someone else to talk with about it when you're done. Do be careful of spoilers on this one - - there is great pleasure in each revelation.

Where does The Husband's Secret rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I prefer nonfiction books, but this was a very nice escape!

The story was sooo intriguing! The writing was beautiful. There were lines that took my breath away. There's so much to this story, and I loved the writer's technique (I can't say more without giving away anything). The narrator was fantastic and really brought this book to life. Will definitely recommend this to some people!

I actually started this after some major surgeries. I was 3/4 of the way through, but, realized I had been getting the families and marriages mixed up. It was so good and I knew my confusion was mostly due all the medications I was taking. Sure enough, as my head cleared the major characters', and their dilemmas', anger, bitterness, lust, and delightfully fully captured children, drew me in, as surely as they were my own friends and families..

Thank you for such a great book and the narrator was so wonderfully able to convey the voices of all the adult's' nuances, as well as all the children, even one with an endearing lisp.

So Good, So Intricate, I did not want it to end

No twists or turns really. Rather disappointed in overall story. So many different characters to keep up with and no real climax.. slow

Meh

Yes this author is wordy and probably not as successful with another narrator. But this is a fantastic book for anyone that has a child.

Wordy but worth it

I agree there is a lot of “hand wringing” but who wouldn’t with these types of events? Love the relatable characters and the intertwined stories. Excellent narration. Bittersweet ending. Overall wonderful!

Have listened to Big Little Lies and The Husband's Secret by Moriarty and LOVED them both. The plot drags me in and I can't stop listening until I find out what happens next. The narrator brings the characters to life and makes you feel as if you are a fly on the wall actually watching the events unfold. I will continue reading all of Moriarty's books at a greedy pace until I have read them all and am forced to find another author to take her place.

moriarty is my new addiction!

5 different character stories around the same story. it keeps jumping from one to the other which in the beginning was difficult to follow until you become use to it.
