Story
Geary believed in the Alliance. Even when he uncovered overwhelming evidence that the highest echelons of the government and fleet command were involved in secret programs and prison camps, he believed it was worth saving. He believed his duty was to see that justice was served even though some factions feared that revealing the truth would cause the Alliance to crumble. But after narrowly surviving two assassination attempts when he brings evidence of the misdeeds to the capital star system, Geary realizes that some want to get rid of him.

Names mispronounced.
Reviewed: 07-08-23
Great story, love the narrator normally. But why do they mispronounce names so much. Rione and Tanyas last name was always mispronounced in the Syndicate series and everyone from that series is mispronounced in this series. Do they not plan this stuff out?

As always any book by Brandon Varnell is a treat and the voice actors are as impressive and amazing as ever. Please don't ever switch them. The only downside is the wait till the next!

Changed voice actor
Reviewed: 02-15-21
Someone made the decision to change the narrator for this novel and it was a terrible one. 5 seconds in and I had absolutely no desire to even listen to a moment more. Any future audibles that are published by this author and not narrated by Luke Daniel's I will not even glance at. Wonderful story but if I can't make myself listen to the narrator, what's the point.

Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

New narrator again?!?
Reviewed: 01-22-19
I love the writing, but really tired of new narrators mispronouncing words from book to book. It detracts from the enjoyment of the novel. Other series have the same narrator from book to book, why can't this one?

Story
In the three years since former fleet officer Rob Geary and former marine Mele Darcy led improvised forces to repel attacks on the newly settled world of Glenlyon, tensions have only gotten worse. When one of Glenlyon's warships is blown apart trying to break the blockade that has isolated the world from the rest of human-colonized space, only the destroyer Saber remains to defend it from another attack. Geary's decision to take Saber to the nearby star Kosatka to safeguard a diplomatic mission is a risky interpretation of his orders, to say the least.
