January Lavoy = JarJar Binks
Reviewed: 07-07-16
January Lavoy is the WORST narrator SW catalog. The worst thing to happen to the Stat Wars universe since JarJar Binks.
I own every SW audiobook, but I have never been able to FINISH ANY of the books narrated by Lavoy. Her voice characterizations are TERRIBLE; not only is it difficult to tell one character from another, but she is completely incapable of even a palpable rendering of the most important central characters - she can't even do a passable C-3P0 voice!
The "new canon" books are hard enough to get into, since Disney decided to throw away 20 yrs worth of learning HOW to tell a SW story, in favor of blundering through trying to re-write the universe, but a mediocre narrator, with no penchant for HOW to tell a SW story, makes it an exercise in torment.
I gave this narrator several chances to get better, but I am fed up with paying premium prices for Star Wars audiobooks that are nauseating to listen to.
I will still be buying Star Wars audiobooks, but I will NEVER buy another book narrated by January Lavoy.
Dear Disney - In the future, if Marc Thompson or Jonathan Davis isn't available to narrate the audiobook, then WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE before recording the book. Otherwise, you are just pissing off your listeners, and pissing away what might be a good book. "Dawn of the Jedi" & "Bloodline" MIGHT actually be good books; I certainly will never know, because I've never been able to make it through more than 10 minutes of them, thanks to JarJar Lavoy.

Story
In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

Excellent book. Narrator not so much.

Narrator does not capture or illustrated the unique voice & delivery timing that are signature Hunter S. Thompson.
The book is great, but would be 300% better if:
1. It was unabridged, and
2. It was narrated by Johnny Depp - no one else on Earth can portray Hunter S. Thompson as well as Johnny!
Maybe it will get re-recorded by Johnny Depp for the "Anniversay Edition"
