About this listen

Maverick author Hunter S. Thompson introduced the world to "gonzo journalism" with this cult classic that shot back up the best seller lists after Thompson's suicide in 2005. No book ever written has more perfectly captured the spirit of the 1960s counterculture. In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.©1971 Hunter S. Just get Depp to do this audiobook.

Horrible audio quality, narrator made it boring and slow. In the movie Johnny Depp killed it at narrating the parts of the book that were in the movie.
Love this story, love Hunter S. Thompson just need a redo of this Audible.

Quite a trip... (hah, pun)

I had never read the book until listening to this version. I enjoyed the trip! I enjoyed the narrator, but like another reviewer pointed out, the accents get jumbled which makes it hard to tell who is speaking at times.

Such horrible reading

A classic book ruined by bad voice acting. The voices all sound like teenage doofuses. I can’t listen to it.

I grew up in the wrong time and place for this book

I heard a lot about this book over the years and decided to give it a chance at 39 years old. I have also read Mr. Thompson's Hells Angel book and enjoyed the writing. I think this book would have been a little more relevant to me had I grown up in the 60's and 70's. I found myself unable to shut it off even though I didn't relate well to the insane drug induced lives these characters lead. I think that some parallels can be drawn from then to now however when you compare law enforcement knowledge of drug culture vs. the actual drug culture. Some things I think are still misunderstood. Give it a chance for sure is you haven't done so.
