Story
When the Colonial Marines set out after their deadliest prey, the Xenomorphs, it's what Corporal Hicks calls a bug hunt - kill or be killed. Here are fifteen all-new stories of such "close encounters", written by many of today's most extraordinary authors. Set during the events of all four Alien films, sending the Marines to alien worlds, to derelict space settlements, and into the nests of the universe's most dangerous monsters, these adventures are guaranteed to send the blood racing - one way or another.

Great Stories! Great Cast of Narrators!
Reviewed: 06-03-20
Aliens Bug Hunt is a refreshing retrospective into the lives of some of the most endearing characters from the Alien movie franchise, plus a whole lot more! The backstories into the lives of "Game over" Hicks, "Nuke the site from orbit" Hudson, and even "Let's Rock!" Vasquez are well written jaunts through the Alien universe. To say that I highly recommend this book is an understatement.

Honestly, I assumed the Larry Dilemma would be about some guy who uses his high level position at work to coerce women into sleeping with him. I was pleasantly surprised to find how wrong I was. Yes, the main character in this story is a morally bankrupt human being, but this is hardly a story that ends the way it begins. Because of this pleasant little twist, I was left feeling completely satisfied with Mr Penny's short story. This is definitely a listen-worthy book!

I went into this particular book not knowing what to expect. Satan's Badezimmer is told from the point of view of a reporter who is interviewing a death row inmate. Without giving away the story, I just have to say after listening to this it has made me wonder if this story was pulled from something real. Worth a listen.

What I love most about del Toro is his ability to collaborate with the great writers. I'm a huge fan of the Strain trilogy so this was a no-brainer for me. It is easily a binge-listen. You are engaged from the very beginning and this story literally does not let go until the end. I hope del Toro continues these types of collaberations because he truly is a giant in the genre of fantasy/horror fiction.

Stephen Kuusisto was born legally blind - but he was also raised in the 1950s and taught to deny his blindness in order to "pass" as sighted. Stephen attended public school, rode a bike, and read books pressed right up against his nose. As an adult, he coped with his limited vision by becoming a professor in a small college town, memorizing routes for all of the places he needed to be. Then, at the age of 38, he was laid off. With no other job opportunities in his vicinity, he would have to travel to find work.

I didn't really know what to expect when I picked up this title. I was hesitant because, you know, your first thought is to wonder if this is the Audible version of "Old Yeller". Actually, this audio book is surprisingly informative yet brutally frank in its presentation. Honestly, if you're like me before I listened to this book, you don't know much about a seeing eye dog's role or how they are trained. I learned so much from this touching, well written account. I highly recommend this audio book.

Richard Matheson’s Hell House is, in a word, brilliant. His descriptions are crisp and vivid. His prose is engaging in a way that doesn’t make you feel the need for a Master’s Degree in English. I purchased this story on Sunday morning and finished listening by Monday evening. Hell House was published in 1971, yet remains as vibrantly relevant as any modern book. It is truly a masterpiece deserving of the highest accolades in the world of horror fiction. I highly recommend this book!

An all-new, full-cast dramatization of the classic graphic novel. The isolated town of Barrow, Alaska, is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction. Only Barrow's husband-and-wife sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction. . By the time the sun rises, will they pay the ultimate price - or worse?

Left With Mixed Feelings
Reviewed: 11-19-17
No, this audio adaptation of 30 Days of Night is horrible by any stretch. However, I have some concerns regarding Audible's concerted effort to produce "Ear Movies". The voice actors are superb and the sound effects are beyond stellar. Yet, the narrative in this story is oftentimes dicey. And when you hear every actor explain what he or she is seeing, hearing, and feeling in great detail...well, who, I ask, communicates that way in real life? The tense in which the sporadic narrative is voiced feels awkwardly placed, and at times, completely contrived. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to ear movies when they're done well. I'm just not sure I can recommend this hour long ear movie because the nearly two hour movie is just as well-acted with spectacular sound effects.
