great concepts, but unconvincing characters

I love the story and the imagery, but why must the characters be so predictable and emotionally flat?
the book underacheives in my opinion

Frightening Masterpiece!

Based on the movie and script this novel gives more depth to the material than a movie possibly can. It's a dark and scary sci-fi adventure with good narration in my opinion. I love the movie too but this book gave me 'more' and I recommend it to every Alien fan who wants to explore the roots of the Alien Franchise!

Unusually good movie adaptation

I've never been a fan of Alan Dean Foster's writing; his Alien and Star Wars movie novelizations are usually merely prosy and functional. He also has a talent for sucking the tension out of potentially scary scenes, and often rewrites some of the best lines from those movies to erase their impact (Aliens: "Get away from her, you!"). But from the opening paragraphs of this book he really surprised me with his eloquence and creativity. He brings all these characters to life with great detail and gives them a lot of depth. I particularly loved how he wrote David and Walter. I really enjoyed this book and will listen to it again.

This book really follows the movie

I've enjoyed this book since I am a big fan of this series but I wish that this book added additional information to the story as a whole and not simply followed the movies story line. I've enjoyed some of the other books in the series and they were like prequel books to the movies. which was amazing.

Story great, Narration not so much

I normally don’t have a problem with narrators performing the voice of the opposite gender, but in this case his version of female voices was cringeworthy- and that was at the best of times. At the worst his attempts sounded like a two pack a day combined with a high school girl!

good book. ok voice acting

The story was good. however I couldn't help but laugh everytime the voice actor had a character raise their voice or scream.

Starts a little slow, but definitely builds up

Note: Note: I've got some of the other Alien novels and have seen just one or two movies. I didn't have a clue which movies or novels came when in the franchise. I saw Origin so started with that and moved on to Covenant. It's not chronologically the first movie, but I'll listen to some others later.

I like the Origins book, but enjoyed this much more. Some of the characters are really well-written and I cared for them. A couple were well-written and I didn't care for them, but of course that is part of the point. I will not give spoilers.

Let me say also that the narration is fantastic.

This book starts a little slow, but the intensity builds up. An incident with some seeming space dust colliding with the spaceship sets up a series of decisions. You don't have a story without conflict and the decisions lead to a lot of conflict and Aliens. They are gross and brutal and I spent a lot of time screaming at characters to make better choices. I really enjoyed this and plan to see the movie sometime. You could do this without the prequel, but why not both?

It'll take me a couple of months before I listen to more Alien books. The author did his job!

there were too many twists at the end

this isn't audible's fault, they didn't write the book, but I thought the ending was a little unnecessary. there's a point where you've reached one too many twists and I become detached from the story.

I Don't Understand Why They Bothered

This was not a very good sequel to Prometheus by far. The new Ripley being essentially tortured by David is a sad end.
