Wonderful research from ships logs, diaries and older books of the area, Mr. Michner weaves a story that crosses the centuries and the race and economic gamete. The use of Language is eloquent unlike any writer of current era. Conservation issues, political issues. Now its going to awaken some disturbing parts of our past, but I believe its an important work as was "The Covenant". No way I could sit still and read the old fashion way with my ADHD but LISTENING on Audible, it has been so enlightening. Most folks (of my age) are acquainted with his work "Centennial" from the Movies. but I plan to listen to that book in a few weeks. THIS has left my mind Full and Satisfied for a while.

Story
This is Bryce Courtenay's moving tribute to his son, Damon, a hemophiliac who died from medically acquired AIDS on April 1, 1991, at the age of 24. April Fool's Day is controversial, painful and heartbreaking, yet has a gentle humor. It is also life-affirming, and, above all, a testimony to the incredible regenerative strength of love: how when we confront our worst, we can become our best. This tragic yet uplifting story will change the way you think.

Been there. Not HIV or Hemophilia but lost a son
Reviewed: 06-19-23
I started this book near my firstborn's birthday. 1980. He was finally diagnosed with rare (42nd case in Literature) of an Autoimmune disease. And NOTHING was known about autoimmunity then. I lost him at 10.5 months. I have picked the sore spot left by loss for decades, looking for answers. I have discovered that myself, my brother, both parents and all 4 grandparents (apparently) suffer from either Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance. Easy to treat... but IGNORANCE of the medical community kept me from figuring this out until I was 58 years old. Your description of the medical community is point on, even in Rural Alabama, USA. I almost stopped listening twice, but pressed thru until the end, and cried for your family as well as my own. It will make me listen to all your books DIFFENTLY now. I have already listened to 8 or 10, But not Tandia. God wanted me to hear this first.

Story
Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.
