Story
The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with the formidable Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

A Truly Epic Tale
Reviewed: 05-14-25
This artfully woven tale of adventure, luck, love, and subterfuge is spellbinding. Steven Erikson gets my endorsement as a master story teller because of the richness and depth of his character build and story line. Thank you, Sir, for an amazing journey through the empire.

Story
A family of four murdered in their hotel room. A single mother and her boyfriend both stabbed to death. A sordid history of violent crimes, repeated over and over - but decades apart. Olivia Barker is a therapist with no connection to the murders. But she has heard things. Stories that keep her up at night. Details that only a killer would know. A killer who could be one of her patients…Olivia has no proof for her suspicions. But as the body count rises, so do her fears. A rock is thrown through her window, her car tires are slashed, a chilling message is scrawled on her bathroom mirror.

Suspenseful and Intriguing Story Line
Reviewed: 12-11-23
One of the best listens of the year! The narrator does an outstanding job of giving life to each character in this thrilling story Kevin O'Brien has so expertly constructed. Plot twists & secrets with a bit of history woven in - I was on the edge of my seat up to the end!

Suspenseful, moving, magic story.

Overall, I loved the story - but it would have been so much more without the soft porn. Sometimes less is more. The energy between Hunt and Bryce was hot without graphic reference to Hunt's aroused manhood or the f*&@$ng in the bathroom. It cheapened the story.

Accidental Alchemist was a disjointed and disappointing download. The author did both too much and not enough in trying and failing at what I was hoping would be an amazing story.

Fantastical Flop For Me
Reviewed: 07-16-22
I called this one 10 minutes into the story. Heavy on graphic sex scenes and sexual references, light on plot, character development, etc. You know - the things that actually make a good story for many of us. This book may speak to some but for me, it was a huge disappointment and waste of a credit.
