Good, but not perfect

Good narration. Great settings. Confusing mythology and theogony. Sad story overall but enough thrills and action. A bit long. Could have wrapped it up sooner.

But only a couple of months into his new career, Julian’s evening is disrupted by a visitor. A Wonderful Swan Song
Reviewed: 04-09-22
It starts slow but it progresses to a trot then into a full gallop. It is a complex story of how the shadowy world of espionage is inhabited by complex people. How you can lose yourself in the game, but at the end can find yourself.
Toby Jones is a great actor and I hope he will continue to do more audiobooks.

Story
Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

Amazing Story

Real life sometimes is more amazing than fiction. This is one of those cases. The story of how the young nation of Israel, fought off their Arab neighbors, is nothing short of a miracle. The victory in the 6 day war by Israel shocked the world. Now in this non fiction account, by the great Steven Pressfield, you can go behind the scenes. Courage, tenacity, and faith against all odds. The narrator does a superb job and keeps you captivated. I recommend this book. You will not be disappointed.

Story
Since it was first published more than 25 years ago, Robert Fitzgerald's prizewinning translation of Homer's battle epic has become a classic in its own right: a standard against which all other versions of The Iliad are compared. Fitzgerald's work is accessible, ironic, faithful, written in a swift vernacular blank verse that "makes Homer live as never before" ( Library Journal).

If it's good enough for Alexander the Great
Reviewed: 05-12-20
It is said that Alexander the Great slept with a copy of the Iliad underneath his pillow every night. That may be a tad dramatic, but there is no disputing the greatness of this classic greek tale.
The translation by Robert Fitzgerald is perfect. The narration by the great Dan Stevens is superb.
