About this listen

Audible Studios presents a brand new recording of Charles Dickens' timeless seasonal story A Christmas Carol, performed by Hugh Grant.

First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially.

One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Still a Classic, Redone

Most of you know what a great story this is, the sublime use of language coupled with the immortal message. Mr. Grant does an excellent job of keeping it alive. Well done, all around. Ho ho ho.

A Christmas Classic

This is the time of year when I read or listen to a lot of Christmas classics that I know very well. None of them are so moving as Charles Dicken’s Christmas Carol. The characters of this short novel—The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Tiny Tim, and of course, Ebenezer Scrooge are among the best known in all of literature and they appear everywhere in Christmas stories. (They even made an appearance in the remake of Duck Tales.) Dickens not only realistically paints Victorian London, he uses Scrooge to help us look into our own hearts. In doing so, he’s created a timeless classic that will be with us for centuries of Christmases to come.

Super enjoyable!

I am not sure if I have ever read “A Christmas Carol” or only saw it on stage/on the screen. This was such an enjoyable few hours to get in the Christmas spirit. I highly, highly recommend and may make this an annual tradition for myself!!! ❤️🎄

Excellent readings for a season classic

Do you know a Bah Humbug? It’s a season tradition to read or listen to this classic tale of redemption on the birth of mankind’s savior. Hugh Grant does the whole season justice with this rendition. I love Patrick Stewart and Tim Curry as well. They are all three well done. Probably tie for Grant and Stewart, but Curry is worth having as well (and yes, we have all three! But only one gets heard a year.) Very worth adding to your traditions as well.

Truly amazing narration.

Will look for more books read by this narrator. The performance was the biggest reason I listened to the well known story

Masterful!

I had no intention of rereading this book so soon, but when I say Hugh Grant was the one who read it, I simply had to listen to it. The work itself is an absolute masterpiece and Hugh Grant breathes such life into it that even one who has read it a billion times will find it refreshed!
