Story
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

slow.......

Started good and then dragged. I kept hoping it would pick back up, but stopped listening with more than 6 hours left. . I don't even care what happens next or how it ends.

Story
Alexis Spencer thinks she has it all figured out. Even when life gets her down, she’s never too far away from another inspirational quote to rationalize her failures and ignore all her problems. Her boyfriend breaks it off, she loses her job, her closest friends are a distant memory, and her college debt is still as high as the day she left. In typical fashion, she blames the world for her problems, including her 18-year-old self who should have just tried harder and put their life on a better track.

started off good, got boring fast, predictable end
Reviewed: 07-07-22
I picked this book because it seemed like a funny and easy read/listen. It started off pretty good, the narrator was funny and the storyline was entertaining. Too bad it didn't last. By the halfway mark, I just wanted it to be over. The ending was so boring and predictable and uninspired.

Story
Some people are born boring. Some live boring. Some even die boring. Fred managed to do all three, and when he woke up as a vampire, he did so as a boring one. Timid, socially awkward, and plagued by self-esteem issues, Fred has never been the adventurous sort. One fateful night, Fred reconnects with an old friend at his high school reunion. This rekindled relationship sets off a chain of events thrusting him right into the chaos that is the parahuman world.

totally entertaining

I really enjoy this format, it's like a play but for your ears. I like the Fred series. The premise of a boring vampire is super entertaining. I don't think I'd read this as a book, but as a play/radio show format, it's great.

Story
Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in LA alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best: Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.

Well told story. I really wanted to know what happened next. Great characters. Loved how both main characters told their own version of the story.

Story
Samantha is a professional seductress and con artist with a heart of gold. If she talked about her work, she’d tell you she only pilfers organs for medical research and that she only takes one kidney, and she only steals those kidneys from dishonest people. It’s hell on her social life. Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

odd. funny. like a play, but audio only

i enjoyed this odd story. It's told like a play, rather than a book narration. I wish it were longer. The ending could have been better. Overall, I really enjoyed it and will look for similar stories.
