Story
There’s a story about Rich Paul that everyone knows: A twenty-one-year-old kid from Cleveland who sells sports jerseys out of his car meets a high school basketball phenom named LeBron James at an airport—the two become friends and forge a decades-long partnership that reinvents the business of sports. That random meeting might seem like the lucky break that changed Paul’s life. But a moment of good fortune means nothing without the struggle that gets you there. And the truth is, Paul had always been lucky.

You Can’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover

Who knew that Rich Paul was such a gangster. I’m not even a sports fan but it came up in my audible previews. This dude has mad life hustling and negotiating skills. His story is compelling and drew me right in from the start. His memoir should be an inspiring tale for many. So happy for his success.

Story
Tess Strebel can’t recognize her own face. She can’t recognize her home. Her bedroom is unfamiliar. And she can’t remember the handsome stranger lying next to her in bed. A stranger who claims he’s her husband. Tess reads a letter in her own handwriting, composed during a rare lucid day, explaining her life as it now exists: she was in a terrible car accident one year ago. Every morning, she wakes up unable to remember most of the last decade. Including her own wedding.

Repetitive & Slow
Reviewed: 03-29-24
Some chapters repeated the same thing unnecessarily where I thought I was listening to the same chapter from before. This book could have been done in 5 chapters instead of 47. The build up got lackluster from too much build up of the same. Not her best work.

Story
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Loved the characters and plot twists. Instead of listening on my long car rides, I found I played this book at any free time and was my bedtime story. Great book.

Love the Narrator’s Voice(s)
Reviewed: 06-14-23
This was a great story with the narrator’s voice pulling you in. Loved how we find ourselves doing changing from the mama’s voice to the husband’s voice. Good story showing how in those days going as an undercover white girl you can flex more and get more.
