Story
Being a small dungeon on the outskirts of town in the backwaters of an unimportant kingdom isn't easy, but Kelsey's done her best to level up and become the best dungeon she can be: Digging a hole of ever-increasing depth and complexity. Creating an undead atmosphere that would make a necromancer proud. Spawning monsters and treasure. Killing adventurers. But lately, things have gotten a bit stale.

Terrible MC
Reviewed: 06-15-24
The one thing I have no qualm about is the narrator, she did a great job. the rest however, is tainted by the terrible Mc. she's sadistic and irritating and yet I'm supposed to like her? The worst part though is how she inserts her way into the various other characters relationships. she's that crazy horny girl at a party trying to hook up with people who are clearly not into it. and yet she wears them down, rolls her eyes when the guy has an emotional moment, pushes the girls into situations that they clearly have no interest in at first and only copitulate to when they realize that this preditor won't leave them alone.

Story
Emilia Drakon was once the youngest and kindest of the dragon sorcerers, but she's now the last of her kind. Betrayed and angry, she trades her meekness for a sword and embarks on a quest for vengeance that will lead her straight into the arms of the legendary Captain Maria Welles. Captain of the famed pirate ship, the Wicked Fate, Maria is every bit as treacherous and bloodthirsty as they say. She has her own vendetta and practically jumps at the chance to trick Emilia into joining her crew.

Uncanny Valley
Reviewed: 04-09-24
This is a collection of tropes that absolutely annoy me. Not only is it a toxic relationship romance with a Paramore who is in a color guard of red flags but the only thing driving the story is lust. In fact the lust haze is doing all of the heavy lifting for not just the romance but the plot as well.
The thing that is probably the most prevalent is the feeling of the uncanny valley every time the page is mostly dialog. It's just that little bit wrong that goes on long enough to make every scene unbelievable.

Story
Alright, no need to panic. Instead of never waking from my crash, I found myself relocated. Before the accident, I was a woman in her late 20s, working as a mid-level banker who was a rising star destined for greatness. I had a propensity to dress fancy, savor my yearnings for both sexes, and I enjoyed a pretty pampered life which made my transition onto a fantasy world a bit tenuous.

I feel like this story had two big problems hampering it. For one, the voice actor was the wrong choice for this. There was no range for women voices and the strain it took to keep the voice high pitched caused cracks and other distracting elements.
The second one is the fact that the romance was oddly paced. There wasn't enough build up for the amount of angst and depth of feeling that seemed to become instant.
Aside from those two it was an interesting story but there were some beats that hit strongly, its one of those things that becomes much more noticeable when your listening rather than reading.

Somewhere in the toxic Bone Pits, where mechanical nightmares roam, an emaciated and wounded young wolf clings to life. Wracked with pain, driven by instinct, it crawls across the subterranean landscape, avoiding the unnatural horrors that dwell there and seeking sustenance while fending off rats, insects, and other vermin stalking it as prey.

Disturbing and unsatisfied
Reviewed: 12-15-23
Imagine if HP Lovecraft was a modern twenty something with a 2 year degree in evolutionary biology. Trying to picture the "wolf" after its final evolution is just disgusting. It has heaps of obvious sequel bait and yet none of it is satisfying or titulating. The ending is likewise incredibly unsatisfying and an obvious sequel bait. The voice actor was pretty great but his voice for the wolf was ear gratting. Not a combination of things that makes me excites to continue the series when it eventually comes out.

I remember why I didn't continue the series.
Reviewed: 10-28-23
I came back to this series after a long time away and I couldn't remember why I never went past this book.
I do now. The confrontation before the final fight was so infuriating. Everyone was beating the Mc down for his "mistake". Not one person was on his side even though me as a reader was on his side. So all the emotional swats he took felt like they were aimed at me. The fact that his love interest never took accountability for having hamstrung him just made her instantly unlikable. and since the Mc is the only character I still like I can't be invested in the series.

The tone was also muddled. I couldn't tell if it was trying to be a light hearted harem type story or a serious gritty tale with some interesting world building. The old wizard was obviously meant to be a comic relief and yet he always follows a serious fight with everyone about to die.
also the harem element was so sloggy. The synopsis was all about everything that was implied instead of what happened in the story.

The surface world is a strange place for a young man who grew up in hell. Darren was just a boy when he and his mother were betrayed by paladins and chased beneath the Earth. There, with only his paladin's sigil and his quests to guide him, Darren grew from boy to man. Born in fire and blood, hell itself sculpted the perfect paladin.

The ending ruined it for me. You build up this guy as an op powerhouse who fights first and hesitates only when tactics make it wise. and then you fall into that super annoying story trick of making the Mc stand and watch as the big bad does his big show even though he has demonstrated that he would normally have stopped it. and then he becomes a chicken without a head and runs around back and forth until he can finally give up.... I hate that story telling tact.

Story
Dorky, socially awkward entomology student Evelyn wakes up one morning to find herself as some sort of alien-human hybrid trapped on an unknown planet. Once the initial panic winds down, she quickly learns she's capable of producing more of herself: additional bodies all sharing one mind. Being well-versed in sci-fi tropes, she quickly resolves to not devour the planet and turn into an unflinching biological armada, and instead uses her new powers to try and help as many people as possible. Unfortunately, it turns out that helping people is often very, very difficult.

I feel like i should have been paid
Reviewed: 12-30-22
This was a slog to get through, it truly felt like work, or a lecture series I didn't want to attend.
I feel like this was a worse story of two other series that did it better without the preachy context. the only analogy i can come up with to sum up my feelings is that this was a poly sci major's attempt at teaching a class on world morality. There's a vague attempt at addressing one of the problems with true world peace but its just mentioned and then never talked about again.
The MC is developed and nuanced, true, but her nuance is unintelligible and full of 'close your eyes and run' energy. It's like the author couldn't decide if the character wanted to be a cautionary tale or a bleeding heart for sociological ideals. Swarm did the hive mind in a way that worked thematically better than this and Interview with angel did the quirky girl with obsessive tendencies who falls in love with an alien much much better.

I was really enjoying the story for the first 3/4. Such interesting world building and characterization. it wasn't until the conclusion that I lost alot of interest. the stranger was distracting to the other two main battles and only seemed to exist to push this personality split which caused existential conversations that didn't make any sense within the logic of the story telling.
