In this sexy, pulse-pounding new duology by New York Times best-selling author Rachel Vincent, a decadent spring break beach getaway becomes a terrifying survival story when six Miami teens are kidnapped.
Maddie is beyond done with her cousin Genesis' entitled and shallow entourage. Genesis is so over Miami's predictable social scene, with its velvet ropes, petty power plays, and backstabbing boyfriends.
While Maddie craves family time for spring break, Genesis seeks novelty - like a last-minute getaway to an untouched beach in Colombia. And when Genesis wants something, it happens.
But paradise has its price. Dragged from their tents under the cover of dark, Genesis, Maddie, and their friends are kidnapped and held for ransom deep inside the jungle - with no diva left behind. It all feels so random to everyone except Genesis. She knows they were targeted for a reason. And that reason is her.
Now, as the hours count down, only one thing's for certain: If the Miami hostages can't thwart their captors' plan, no one will make it out alive.
Tapping in to our darkest fears while exploring issues of injustice, loss, and the courage to fight for what matters most, this thrilling audiobook is perfect for fans of Nova Ren Suma, Becca Fitzpatrick, and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Once I came to the realization that two characters were taking turns telling the story, I didn't have a problem with following the storyline. Maybe the two narrators have too similar of a voice...? Maybe it's just me...? Overall, they did a good job. They were easy to listen to and understand. And, they spoke and soumded just like teens do!! Also, whichever one did the voice of the female kidnapper/terrorist, it was perfect! I felt like I was able to visualize that character based on voice alone. :-)
I would have given the book 5-stars, but truthfully, I was not a fan of the ending, so I dropped it to 4-stars. I saw in some of the reviews on Amazon that this book is #1 in a series. That would make more sense, since it pretty much ends, leaving you wondering what happens next! I do not know if this is truth or just wishful thinking from readers, but I would definitely love to hear book #2!!I Also, I wish that the setting was more developed. The story takes place in Colombia, which was one of the main reasons I chose this book. However, I don't feel like there was much that made me visualize the area, specifically, except for being told that is where the story took place.
For those of you who do not know any Spanish, know that there is a fair amount of it spread throughout the book. While much of the dialogue used may be common to those who speak the language, you may feel like you are missing out on parts of the story because only about half of what is said is stated/repeated in English through future character dialogue. Don't worry, though, because nothing is said in Spanish that causes you to miss out on parts of the plot. In fact, hearing the characters speak it added to the overall listening experience, in my opinion. Nice job, narrators! :-)
If you like these types of storylines and don't mind books that involve spoiled teens partying on Spring Break (because, let's face it...it happens just like the story tells!), then I can confidently recommend this book! This is my first book by Rachel Vincent, and I'm crossing my fingers that there will be more in this series! I found it to be well-written and very engaging! Keep up the great work, RV!
Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)
