About this listen

Throughout his baseball career and life, Christy Mathewson often wrote down his observations and philosophies. The most famous collection of these writings was published by John N. Wheeler in the classic baseball book Pitching in a Pinch. He was asked many times to write an autobiography yet never completed one.

This audiobook is a compilation of many of those writings not included in Pitching in a Pinch and completes with that book and the brand-new Managing in a Moment (1916-18 writings of Mathewson while managing the Cincinnati Reds), a marvelous and fascinating trilogy of Matty's nonfiction writings. This audiobook includes several personal letters and thoughts as well as obscure interviews and articles attributed to Mathewson and likely helped along by Jack Wheeler. You will marvel as the past jumps to the presents and names long forgotten bring back the grand old days of the Dead Ball Era. Mathewson was the first to ever put his name to a column and to endorse products. He was universally adored and was the most famous person in the United States in the first two decades of the 20th century.

We hope you will enjoy this volume. This is volume two of a three-volume work, researched, transcribed, and edited by Eddie Frierson.
