Publisher's summary

When Retta's "gentleman friend" is accused of murder, the Sleuth Sisters take on the case. Winston Darrow is a charmer, but his secrets create trouble that spills onto Retta, Barb, Faye, and even police chief Rory Neuencamp. Someone is out to get Win, someone he claims is the real killer. While Retta admits Win is less trustworthy than her daffy Newfoundland dog, she insists he's not a murderer. Dogs become an issue when Faye rescues a mutt she finds hurt on the road. Though Barb isn't a fan, she can't refuse Faye's request to keep the homely, ill-tempered Buddy. Retta, though doubtful about adopting strays, is determined that Faye's dog and her Styx will be great friends. The adjustment isn't easy, since Buddy sees Faye as the only worthwhile being in the world. As the sisters conduct their investigation, mysterious men interfere, each more threatening than the last. What do they want with them and with Winston? When the situation turns dangerous, the sleuths hide Win at Rory's cabin, reachable in a Michigan winter only by snowmobile. In the frozen wilderness, Barb and Retta must ignore their differences and work together to stay alive. Back at home, Faye faces a deadly enemy with only Buddy and a couple of horses for backup. If the Sleuth Sisters live through this, it will be due to family solidarity, doggie instincts, and loyal friends. But really, who would ask for more?

Family Feud

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, you will enjoy the variety in the sisters and dogs always add enjoyment to a book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was kept guessing as to whodunit.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Even with using different voices for the three sisters, I sometimes was confused. Usually their reactions or comments indicated clearly who was speaking. I had a similar problem while reading the books in this series. I would sometimes look back at the chapter heading to see which sister was involved.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Enjoyable mystery which does provide a laugh and heart.

Great mystery series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone that likes mysteries with humor, good dialogue, and no gore.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Barb and Faye, the best, because I can identify with both of them, though I guess I (might) have a little bit of Retta in me, too. I think it is interesting that Retta is bossy even though she is the youngest, when usually the oldest is portrayed as the bossy sibling.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I do not think that I have listened to any of these narrators before, nor have I ever listened to a book done by three people for the three different points of view. I think the narration greatly added to the story, and to the characters' personalities.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This story is excellent and made me laugh many times at just the regular-ness of the reactions of the characters. They are so likeable and relatable, even with their flaws.

Any additional comments?

The story drew me in immediately, and I listened to it all in one day. I have purchased the first one, and will buy the next one when it comes out. I am so glad that I found Maggie Pill!

Nice light mystery for the summer

I thought the woman who performed the voices/read the book did a very nice job of capturing the essence of the characters. I also enjoyed the story as I did not find it very predictable as are many of this type of book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked all of the major characters.

Which scene was your favorite?

The penultimate scene near the cabin.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I don't have time to do that.

Clever, Entertaining, and Engaging Listening

Would you consider the audio edition of 3 Sleuths, 2 Dogs, 1 Murder: A Sleuth Sisters Mystery to be better than the print version?

I very much enjoyed the experience of listening to this story rather than reading it, as Anne Jacques, Laura Bednarski, and Judy Blue characterized the three sisters beautifully with their voices. It was wonderful to have such a diversity of vocal talent and stylings as the chapters rotated between the three sister's perspectives.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Retta as her sassy initiative to butt-in even when it frustrates her sisters makes for great humor and contrast in the story. Retta is bold, sometimes annoying, but always a strong and intriguing personality in the narrative.

Any additional comments?

This book is fun, humorous, compelling, and expertly narrated.

Wonderful to read!

I really enjoyed this book. I love the sisters in it. How they bickered among each other but they were there to support and help each other. Wonderful story. The narration was very good with the different voices for the characters. Recommend this book.

What a great series

Maggie Pill has crafted such a wonderful group of people that I can’t help but want to share in all their adventures. The three narrators bring it all to life in a way that feels like you’re actually hearing each one tell you the story from her own prospective. If you want to listen to a cozy mystery series that is far better than most of the others, you’ll want to give this a listen.

Great Mystery

This book kept my attention from the beginning to the end. All of the characters, details, and action scenes were VERY well done. Having 3 narrators was definitely a big plus. I am sure I will be reading more of this series.

The details of all the action were very well done and it showed that a lot of research was put into this to make it very accurate and believable.

I highly recommend this book.

Wait for the movie...

Story is predictable. Written in the first person times three. Narration is only missing a couple chapters for the dogs.
