About this listen

In Lisa Gardner's second short story, after the New York Times bestseller The 7th Month, Detective D.D. Warren takes on her most intimidating assignment yet: a fifty-minute class meant to educate a horde of bloodthirsty thriller writers on the ways of actual police work. Yet sometimes life really does imitate fiction, as D.D. takes the writers through the reality of one of her most twisted cases - a case that involves a seedy motel room, drugs, prostitution...and a severed leg.

With Gardner's trademark suspense, sharp observations, and thrilling storytelling, 3 Truths and a Lie is a fascinating chapter in D.D.'s storied career.

Boston Detective D. D. Warren lectures...

...crime novel authors at a conference. This one hour short story is about one of Warren's cases. She engages her audience to get their input on what she should have done next at each point in the case. Kirsten Potter does her normal great job of narration. The short story is free at Audible. The short story is followed by the first two chapters of Find Her, the D. D. Warren thriller to be released on Feb. 9, 2016.

Witty and Clever

Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren is asked to do a presentation to a group of thriller writers about police procedure. When she turns and faces the room, D. D. abandons her plan and decides to tell a story about a recent, bizarre case and ask the group to figure out the three truths and a lie.

I’m not a fan of novellas but this one was pretty clever. It’s too short for me to provide more details without spoiling it for other readers but what I can share is I was just as engaged as the group in that conference room and enjoyed how she singled out some of my favorite, real life authors. I attempted to guess the answers, too, and the narrator brought a level of wit that made this fun.

Interesting but maybe not worth it

The story was interesting as as always by Lisa Gardner, very well written. However, the length is only 1 hour and 20 minutes, the last 20 minutes are prologue to the next novel. So although it was very good, I don’t think I would pay as much as I did to listen had i known how short it would be.

Excellent as always

A lot of action and suspense is packed into this perfect short story for a short flight. Held my interest until the end and I did not fall asleep like I usually do. Excellent as always. I expect nothing less from Ms. Gardner.

Interesting but not a lot to the story

The story is short without much development but alright for some evening entertainment. I like this narrator.

Short but Well Developed

This was, as stated, a short story, however it was an indulging read as most DD Warren stories are. The form factor of an interactive lecture was unique and quite enjoyable. Well done!

Novella Tweet-Length Thoughts: Three Truths and a Lie was a fun, quick listen that made me want to go to Writer's Police Academy. Great way to get to know DD Warren!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Kirsten Potter / Length: 1 hr and 40 mins

Kirsten did a great job with the narration. This was basically all DD and she nailed what I thought she would sound like. I am going to have to get the ones that I am missing on audiobook (this is a series that I have skipped around on).

Very interesting

I found this to be a very refreshing take on the murder/mystery genre. I am hoping there are more like this one as I would happily listen to more. The only thing that let me down was 'the lie'. Quite a let down after such a build up but didn't distract too much from the over all experience of the book. Great narration with a very easy listening voice.
