Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

Story
Elsie Bovary is a cow, and a pretty happy one at that—her long, lazy days are spent eating, napping, and chatting with her best friend, Mallory. One night, Elsie and Mallory sneak out of their pasture; but while Mallory is interested in flirting with the neighboring bulls, Elsie finds herself drawn to the farmhouse. Through the window, she sees the farmer's family gathered around a bright Box God—and what the Box God reveals about something called an "industrial meat farm" shakes Elsie's understanding of her world to its core.

Story
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

such a great story!
This was such a great story! I was sucked in from the 1st chapter. I'm normally not much of a sappy story reader, but I admit by the end I was tearing up a little bit. I loved the authors comments at the end too!

A unique story that will draw you in
What a great story! I didn’t really know what to expect from this book, but the characters and story drew me right in. I’ve seen a few of the tropes in this book used much less effectively elsewhere. This would make a fantastic film!

The counter view of young and old, coming of age and the inevitable approach of life’s end was beautifully done. Their friendship was heartwarming. The performance was really great too. A very well done audiobook.

For young and old
What did you love best about 4 Years Trapped in My Mind Palace?
I loved the relationship between the two main characters. When young and old can meet and have a lasting friendship, that is just beautiful to watch.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked all the history in this. The little jumps to different events had me listening for longer than I should have.
What does Johan Twiss bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Solomon's voice - you can probably get it a little from reading, but the narrator really brings it out. Solomon really came alive for me.
Any additional comments?
This is a book I could see my children enjoying as well as my parents. It's clean and funny and heartbreaking and inspiring. Truly for young and old alike.

Loved it!
I have to admit, I'm not always keen on reading independently published books. Sometimes they're pretty painful. But I heard about this author and story from an event at my local library and was intrigued. I'm so glad I made an exception! I was hooked from the beginning and engaged all the way through. I loved the characters, the history, the music references, and the hopeful message. A+ Johan Twiss!
