About this listen

A sweet, historical Western romance in the Proxy Brides series.

If Darrell Dean wants to inherit half of the Silver Queen mine, he needs to marry. Though he doesn't even like the girl, he agrees to marry the local saloon owner's daughter. He doesn't expect the surprise that he receives when a woman interrupts the wedding.

If Willa VanDurring wants to escape the danger stalking her, she needs a new name and a place somewhere far away to go. At her guardian's urging, she agrees to marry Darrell Dean by proxy and then immediately leaves to join him in Colorado. She doesn't expect to interrupt his wedding when she arrives.

Can a man who didn't agree to marry the proxy bride and a woman pursued by murderers make a life together? What happens when the danger finds her? In a town with no law, how will she survive?

Intrigue

This story is filled with questions just waiting for answers. Why did Willa need to be married immediately causing her to marry by proxy? What waited for her with her new unknown husband? Why were there all these unnerving circumstances that caused all sorts of problems for the new couple? These questions and more will be answered in this short story featuring Willa and Darrell.
The narrator read at a good pace with voice variations for each character.
If you are looking for innocent kiss or squeaky clean book, this is not for you. Although not explicit, there are several references to the marriage bed, and some lewd comments and actions. I would not recommend this book to someone under 14. If you like a good mystery and don’t mind a bit of shading to the story, this is a quick, engaging read.

Great story

This was just the read I needed: a sweet, loveable escape with just enough drama to keep me engaged. The characters are well developed, the story had good pacing, no lagging or rushing in the telling of the tale. Jenn Lee does a fantastic job narrating this book and bringing the characters to life. I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Unexpected Bride

Fun story. Narrator was good. Darrell needs a wife quick in order to gain his inheritance. Willa needs to leave town quick to avoid danger. Willa agreed to become Darrell's proxy bride and heads to Colorado. When she arrives, she interrupts Darrell's wedding to the saloon owners daughter. He didn't know he already had a bride on the way. can these two strangers make a go of it before the danger arrives in Colorado.
I was given a copy of this story by the author for an honest review.

Innocence with a tinge of a whole lot more

I loved how it starts with a school girl and how her story just got really complicated. From the first chapters, questions to the puzzle and a whole lot of hints were scattered about were the ones that gives you an idea on how the story will unfold. They are the same questions that get slowly answered as the story progressed. I liked the convoluted way things were related. It was outrageous enough that I will have to agree with the characters' impressions when they started figuring out everything.

Proxy bride or trickery?

Willa has only ever lived in one place that she remembers. It is a girls school. Suddenly for reasons that are unknown to her she is suddenly entering into marriage as a proxy bride. She has been prepared to one day marry but didn’t know she would be entering into marriage in this manner.
But Darrell is even more surprised. He never sent for a proxy bride. And even more shocking she arrives to interrupt the marriage he arranged for himself with a local girl.
This book had a few twists and turns as it wasn’t all about two people learning to live their lives together. It was more about the circumstances that brought the two together. There is mystery surrounding those circumstances.

(3.5 stars) Mail order romance w/mystery & suspens

Wholesome with a two-pronged mystery to give it a double dose of suspense. The plot transition between chapters wasn't always smooth, and it was a little weak in places compared to previous, but it was still a fairly entertaining novella.

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses

*Scene of threatened rape & death, while not overly lengthy or detailed, may be distressing for some readers

*Religion: protagonist is a Methodist, but the handful of light faith moments are generically Christian, as well as natural to the story
