A most enjoyable series which entertain usually with mystery and culture, but this book was far more. It was almost two adventures in one. The experience of a Victorian naval cruise from London to Egypt with deaths to explore was a full tale. Then the political and economic concerns of the new canal added more responsibility to our hero. Well done!

The best yet!

I've been listening to the Charles Lennox series in order. Like them all but this may be the best. Great story a bit of history and seamanship.
The swimming part maybe a bit overdone.

Where does A Burial at Sea rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a fun mystery with a favorite character as always. But it also provided excellent historical context of what it was like to be at sea as the naval sailing vessels were about to become obsolete. As usual, we received a detailed portrayal of class differences and how "gentlemen" actually lived. It was very enjoyable and I was so glad it was a bit longer and more involved than the earlier mysteries.

My favorite Charles Lenox mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've listened to the 1st book and this one, and by far like this one best. Navy and/or sea tales are not of significant interest, so had no real expectations for this book; and was I wrong. It is delightful, has a steady pace and I didn't get lost within the many characters. I would highly recommend this book. There is a twist that took me by surprise at the end, and I enjoyed his nephew's character amongst the other mature, gruff men.

Fully Developed, wonderfully Narrated

More than a describe novel

I loved this book. The change of environs was interesting and stimulating. Research needed to bring this to life was SO WORTH IT. The book can stand alone, anyone interested in sea stories will enjoy it. I kind of hate to go back to London and pick up his life in Parliament again. Maybe Charles will learn to love it and maybe I will too. But the truth is, I'm pretty turned off with politics these days. Instead of continuing the series I just picked up "Vanishing Man", a prequel which follows "Woman in the Water".
