About this listen

He loves no one and never will.

Lord Christmas Gale is a genius and a misanthrope, and, quite to his disgust, adored by all of society for his capacity to solve mysteries. When a man approaches him seeking help in locating a lost dog, Gale rebuffs him. But what begins with a missing dog ends in murder and intrigue—two of Gale’s favorite things, if it weren’t for the orphan that comes attached to them. Oh, and Benjamin Chant.

He has sworn to never love again.

The Honorable Mr. Benjamin Chant isn’t sure how he got swept up in Gale’s mad investigation, but there’s something intriguing about the man—a vulnerability that most of the world doesn’t notice, but which captures Chant’s interest, and his sympathy, from their first meeting. After a disastrous love affair in the past, Chant has sworn to never give his heart away again. Especially to a man who does not want it.

But it isn’t just their hearts at stake.

When their investigation takes a dangerous turn and their lives are threatened, both Gale and Chant are forced into the realization that perhaps two imperfect men might fit perfectly together—that is, if they can outwit the killer who is intent on seeing them both dead.

A Case for Christmas is the second book in the Lords of Bucknall Club series, where the Regency meets M/M romance. The Lords of Bucknall Club can be enjoyed in any order.

Loved it!

I really loved book 1. Story was good. Cornell Collins was very good. But book 2? This one just knocked it out of the park for me! Cornell Collins was still so good. Love his accents. And his way of making Christmas Gale sound so grouchy. But the story was fantastic too. Christmas is exactly the opposite of his namesake and it makes him even more loveable. Never remembers his many sisters’ names. Then Chant comes along and messes him all up. And it’s just a lovely mess. Chant is patient and kind and even despite his previously broken heart can’t help but connect to Gale. Loved every second of it. :)

Loved It!

I really enjoyed Gale and Chant and the developing group of friends at The Bucknall Club! The mystery was well-written and, though there was a lot they had to work through, I was very happy that Chant and Gale were able to figure out how to talk and be patient with each other and be together in spite of how different they were. Gale's family of many sisters (he keeps saying something between five and twenty depending on how loud they are lol) and his mother as well as a ton of stray dogs added a lot of fun scenes to the story.

Cornell Collins is one of my favorite narrators and he was wonderful in this story! Lots of British accents and some Danish ones too!

Great characters

Both of the main characters were clearly drawn and well developed. The story moved along at a good pace. The narration was delightful.

Outstanding performance

Cornell Collins never fails to deliver a truly satisfying narration, and this book is no exception. I adore this series, with its underlying tweak to historical English law, that same sex couples can marry to preserve the wealth of the upper classes from being spread out across the ever-widening branches of family trees laden with younger sons and daughters. This second book features Lord Christmas Gale, an autistic (although of course it is not recognizable as such) young man pushed into the public eye as an amateur sleuth, and Mr. Benjamin Chant, who has suffered more than his share of loss. Sprinkle in a hefty dose of murder, a lot of delightfully sarcastic banter, an elusive hairy dog, and a surfeit of sisters. This book is charming and touching, funny and vulnerable. A satisfying installment in a series that continues to delight with each addition!
