About this listen

A new male/male hockey romance from 24-time USA Today best seller Sarina Bowen!

My name is Hudson Newgate, but my teammates call me "New Guy".

That was my nickname in Chicago, too. And Vancouver. That’s what happens when you keep getting traded. Brooklyn is my last chance, especially after my poor performance last season.

But I can make this work. The new guy knows to keep his head down and shoot the puck. The new guy puts the game first.

What he doesn’t do is hook up with the other new guy—a hot athletic trainer who lives in my building. Gavin needs this job with my team. He’s a single dad with responsibilities.

We can’t be a couple. My arrogant agent–who’s also my father–will lose his mind if I’m dating a dude. And my team needs me to score goals, not whip up a media circus.

Too bad Gavin and I are terrible at resisting each other....

Nothing like a good MM coming out story

Hudson.. a closeted (bi or gay) professional hockey player meets a widowed single father who happens to be the new athletic trainer . One chance meeting a bar aligns their lives . Follow the journey of starting over , protecting parental rights and letting go of a toxic father son relationship . I loved how Sarina wrote such a touching story with lots of funny moments , some sad with medium spice not raunchy. Gavin and Hudson discover truth and love with a guaranteed HEA! Narration Was spot on Love Teddy Hamilton and anything the JF Harding narrates . Check this out you won’t be disappointed

Pure Hockey Magic

I can honestly say that if there’s one book I wished I could listen to again for the first time, it would be The New Guy. It gave me all the feels. All of them. It made my heart stop beating.

I feel like Teddy Hamilton and J.F. Harding did an amazing job portraying Gavin and Hudson flawlessly, their voices matching the characters perfectly. I loved listening to them. It enhances the whole experience.

The New Guy is an M/M hockey romance that can be considered a spin-off of the Brooklyn Bruisers/Brooklyn Hockey series, but is definitely a standalone.

The thing is, Sarina Bowen writes like a dream. She excels at it. And she’s especially skilled at writing hockey romance. And M/M romance. Now, when she combines the two? It feels like the sweetest magic. It’s highly addictive.

The New Guy has plenty of magic. What I love the most about it is how perfectly balanced it is. It’s emotional but not depressing. It’s funny and sweet but not too light. It has weight. It’s emotional and steamy, and the hockey is relevant and thrilling. It’s impossible to put down. It’s a 10 out of ten, would highly recommend for me.

The love story between Hudson and Gavin hits all the checkboxes for me. You have Hudson, the broody hockey player that has been traded too many times and desperately craves stability and a sense of belonging, so in order to prove his worth makes hockey his only priority. Then there’s Gavin, the widowed single dad who’s ready to move on and moves to Brooklyn on a whim to work for a hockey team as an athletic trainer.

I loved everything about The New Guy. You get a big dose of the Bruisers’ shenanigans and get to meet a few new characters as well. I thoroughly enjoyed Jordyn, Gavin’s seven year old daughter. She stole the show. I love how Sarina Bowen writes children, and I especially loved seeing Hudson and Jordyn together. They’re adorable.

Sweet

There’s a lot to love with this tale, especially if you’re newer to the MM hockey trope.

I found it harder to listen to than previous SB books because I couldn’t always figure out who was speaking - too many “he”s and the narrators didn’t seem to coordinate voice characteristics as well? I got the feeling that SB didn’t want to go over old ground and so therefore we missed the public exposure issues. Definitely worth a listen.

Audio perfection for this MM hockey romance!!!

Sarina Bowen does it again!!! By far one of the best authors when it comes to MM romance and she does it again with this book! MM, single dad, AND it’s a hockey romance…say no more!! Add in an audio narration by Teddy Hamilton and J.F. Harding and it is complete perfection! This book is going to be an easy relisten for me!!

The storyline of this book has instant attraction, an emotional back story, hot and steamy romance and an adorable little girl named Jordyn who you can’t help but love during this story! Both Gavin and Hudson are new to Brooklyn but for different reasons. Gavin is widowed and openly gay but just moved there with his 7 year old daughter after taking a job as the athletic trainer for the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team. Hudson is a hockey player who is still in the closet about his sexuality and gets traded yet again to a new team, which is none other than the Brooklyn Bruisers. Gavin and Hudson meet by chance one night in a bar and have immediate chemistry but things quickly take a turn before the night ends. Two strangers who realize they are neighbors but are about to find out they’ll be even closer. It is a spectacular story of growth that is emotional, spicy, and will have you feeling every bit of the connection between them!

Cannot recommend the audio of this book enough! Teddy Hamilton and J.F. Harding together were a match made in heaven for the narration! Their voices went together perfectly and completely embodied the personalities of Gavin and Hudson! Plus their kid voice for Jordyn was so sweet and adorable! Highly recommend listening to this book!!

First off, this is the first time I've listened to J.F Harding and I think im in love! Don't get me wrong, I have my go to FAV narrators that ill always adore... but he is a new one for me and I'm really really enjoying him!

I actually didn't read anything about this book before jumping in because Sarina Bowen is an always for me; she DID NOT disappoint. Gaavin and Holden are my new favs because I love their dynamic! There is humor, sass, heartbreak, spice - its got it all!
