About this listen

Dylan Thomas wrote "A Child's Christmas in Wales" in 1955, in which he recreated the atmosphere of Christmas Past as he remembered it. Each one of us will have similar memories of the glitter and the emotions of this time of innocence, plenty, fun, anticipation, and excitement.©2007 Naxos Rights International (P)2007 Naxos Rights International Fiction Holidays Literary Fiction Celebration Winter Christmas

Memory-provoking

Enjoyable to travel along with this child’s memories of Christmas. My experiences were similar and pleasant to remember. Only issue with this version of the story was the narrator spoke so rapidly that, coupled with the Welsh accent, I found it difficult to catch everything he said.

Wonderful Christmas Story

Timeless classic worth a listen ar Christmas or any time. Dylan was a masterful descriptive writer.

A Child's Christmas in Wales

The narrator doesn't do a bad job, BUT HE IS NOT DYLAN THOMAS. Only Thomas can give his work a deeper understanding of the wonderful words. Of course in may be Thomas' accent.

Great poem. Poor performance.

The reader charges through at high speed, often dropping his voice too low and becoming almost inaudible.

myreview

Would you try another book from Dylan Thomas and/or Philip Madoc?

Yes. The unabridged version. And I would also like to try, Under Milkwood.

If you’ve listened to books by Dylan Thomas before, how does this one compare?

First time listener.

Have you listened to any of Philip Madoc’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Could you see A Child's Christmas in Wales (from the Naxos Audiobook 'A Family Christmas') being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It already has been made into a movie, very good.

Any additional comments?

The longer version is much better. But this one is excellent for the price.

ENJOYABLE TALE...

I liked both the story and narration, not to mention the author. This is a unique story and not one of the same repetetive ones, that although near and dear, are like a broken record.

Nope

A very abridged version of the original. I have heard much better renditions of the WHOLE story.
