Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Kathy Reichs returns with a new riveting novel featuring her vastly popular character, forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, who must use all her tradecraft to discover the identity of a faceless corpse, its connection to a decade-old missing child case, and why the dead man had her cell phone number.

It’s sweltering in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Temperance Brennan, still recovering from neurosurgery following an aneurysm, is battling nightmares, migraines, and what she thinks might be hallucinations when she receives a series of mysterious text messages, each containing a new picture of a corpse that is missing its face and hands. Immediately, she’s anxious to know who the dead man is, and why the images were sent to her.

An identified corpse soon turns up, only partly answering her questions.

To win answers to the others, including the man’s identity, she must go rogue, working mostly outside the system. That’s because Tempe’s new boss holds a fierce grudge against her and is determined to keep her out of the case. Tempe bulls forward anyway, even as she begins questioning her instincts. But the clues she discovers are disturbing and confusing. Was the faceless man a spy? A trafficker? A target for assassination by the government? And why was he carrying the name of a child missing for almost a decade?

With help from a number of law enforcement associates including her Montreal beau Andrew Ryan and the always-ready-with-a-smart-quip, ex-homicide investigator Skinny Slidell, and utilizing new cutting-edge forensic methods, Tempe draws closer to the astonishing truth.

But the more she uncovers, the darker and more twisted the picture becomes....

Fantastic book except chapters are off

A Conspiracy Of Bones is fantastic as usual. Kathy Reichs once again did an amazing job of keeping me at the edge of my seat and unable to put the book down because I just can’t wait to find out what happens next. I thoroughly enjoy the character development and the drama with the new antagonist and Tempe’s new boss Margot Heavner. Kathy really knows how to bring the characters to life and I found myself hating Heavner. This just proves that Kathy is still at the top of her game and proves that she has earned her place on the best seller’s list. Reichs will always be my favorite author.

Additionally, I traveled from CA to meet her a few years ago at Verse And Vino in Charlotte and she was so down to earth, friendly and just an all around wonderful person. Still to this day that was the best day of my life.

The only complaint I have is the chapters are off. I click on chapter 5 and it reads chapter 3. I click chapter 8 and it reads chapter 6. It must be a glitch. Still didn’t stop me from enjoying and finishing this 5 star book. Kathy Reichs did it again.

Great story, great reader

Love the Temperance Brennan series. This one was no exception. KR is brilliant with making complicated subject matter easy to read and understand. The reader is also outstanding which makes this story even more enjoyable.

what happened to Ryan's voice

I know sometimes Ryan pretends to be French to be silly and endearing; However he is not French. Ryan is from Nova Scotia, yet the narration of the book makes him sound French throughout

Another good one !!!!

Once again Kathy writes a convoluted plot twist that one cannot put down. She intertwines that with her relationship with Ryan, her mother, and the concerns she has for her daughter in overseas. Her humorous comments enter twine with serious subject matter has once again created a very entertaining read. I’ve read everyone of her books and I’m eagerly looking forward to the next.
