Publisher's summary

The sexy, action-packed first dramatized audiobook adaptation in the #1 New York Times bestselling Court of Thorns and Roses series from Sarah J. Maas. Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.

At least, he's not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

From bestselling author Sarah J. Maas comes a seductive, breathtaking series that blends romance, adventure, and faerie lore into an unforgettable listen.

Amazing story from SJM but performance a bit lackluster

The story itself is amazing. SJM does an incredible job with the story and immersion and I was thrilled to see a full cast performance. The overall performance was ok. Tamlin and Lucien did a wonderful job with their performances; however, it was difficult to distinguish between Feyre’s internal monologue versus her conversations with other characters. It wasn’t anything wrong with the performance, I think the editing was perhaps cut a bit too close. Some of the sound effects to denote “magic” were a bit silly, and I would have preferred to hear the description of voices rather than Feyre’s internal description after, particularly with the Attor, I think editing so you could hear the “pleas of victims” in the voice vs us being told that is what it sounds like after not very much not hearing it. As other reviewers have stated, Rhys’ voice doesn’t really match the description, not that the actor’s performance was bad, it’s just a bit of a mismatch. Lastly, it was sometimes difficult to appreciate the sound effects like grunts or talking behind closed doors because of Feyre’s loud internal monologue over it, but again I think that has more to do with the editing not the performance. Overall, I think the original narration is a better fit for the book as it is and this could have gone from three to five stars easy if some creative liberties were allowed for where to insert internal dialogue. For example, when we are presented with a scene change vs when it is unnecessary such as Feyre saying “he growled” after we just heard said character growl.

Finally, as other reviewers have also said, it is a little frustrating to have the performance in two parts rather than waiting for the entire performance to be released together.

not bad

obviously nothing beats the original and I would recommend reading the original first before this one but it was nice shaving al the voices and sound effects but it's definitely shortened and missing pieces that the original book as but it was fun.

Great book, just pick the non dramatized version

Really don't love Feyre's performance. The spicy scenes in the dramatized version were... dramatic. When I continue the series I will choose the non dramatized versions.

Actors

The story was a bit slow to get into. I didn’t enjoy the voice actors at all! The infliction was odd and off in all the wrong places. I finished the book but don’t plan on reading the second one.
