About this listen

Pram Bellamy is special - she can talk to ghosts. She doesn't have too many friends among the living, but that's all right. She has her books, she has her aunts, and she has her best friend, the ghostly Felix. Then Pram meets Clarence, a boy from school who has also lost a parent and is looking for answers. Together they arrive at the door of the mysterious Lady Savant, who promises to help. But this spiritualist knows the true nature of Pram's power, and what she has planned is more terrifying than any ghost.

Love this Narrator!

What made the experience of listening to A Curious Tale of the In-Between the most enjoyable?

The narrator

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she talked to her aunts and she Pram realized she was wanted the whole time.

Any additional comments?

The ONLY thing that bothered me about this book was the constant "Pram Said." The author didn't hardly use any other way of describing the "Saids"
There was no "She exclaimed" or "She yelled" it was said said said said and after a few chapters it was starting to annoy the snot out of me!
BUT I did love the book overall. I could listen tot he narrator read the phonebook!

Love it and hate it.

Alright so I read this book in person and I LOVED it. And I love this Audio book as well, I only have one problem with it: the way the actress does a child's voice, aunt's voices, a male's voice, lady Savant's voice, and every other character is annoying. When she reads the text she is at least decent. But the way she does the characters ruined it for me. I definitely recommend this book as she is an amazing author, and she is a good actress, I just think that they didn't choose the right person for this book I particular.

Lovely story! Lovely narration!

I didn't know what to expect from this story. It is the kind of story that sounds like it has been told for generations and yet it is original. With just the right dash of creepiness and yet family friendly. Love the characters Felix is an instant love. No love triangle. Not a YA romance/porn novel. Just a really engaging story. I loved it. Bravo!!

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a creative and grim tale, with a Tim Burton under tone. I am a big fan of Felix and the world that was created in this book. Good listen/read for young adults who like a scary story. Great performance as well.

Nice unique story

So at first I wasn't so sure about this book. It starts out with a pretty graphic image of a dead body. I thought wow where can this go from here?! In the end tho, I did like it. It was a little different at parts, but at its heart it was about Pram just wanting to know where she belongs and who loves her. About Pram - I loved her, I really did. She was sweet and strong and kind and determined. I liked that I knew she was a character that would never intentionally hurt someone. I was able to trust her and cheer for her. And there were so many times she needed cheering! At some points I didn't know if things would work out! But the way the story ended was great.

And can I tell you that I loved Felix. He was sweet and so kind. I cheered for him too!

Lastly Pram's gift was very well done. I liked that it wasn't over-played too much. Yes it played a huge role in the story, but it wasn't a scary thing. It wasn't creepy. It was more factual. It was a gift and accepted and moved on - well at least by Pram. The aunts had different thoughts about it, but that was understandable.

About the audio: Liked it. The narrator was good. Sometimes I struggle with narrators for middle-grade books, but this one was good!

Final thought: Enjoyed it after the shocking beginning.
Best stick-with-you image: Beyond the first one? Clarence and the box.
Best for: Middle school students

I'm not sure what to think . . .

This book is a little hazy, which fits into the subject matter of ghosts. Time passes quickly and slowly for the main character. You are never quite sure of the time period in which the book is set. However, there are some super implausible/convenient connections in the plot which are unsatisfactorily explained through dream walking. Other things are left unexplained and the main characters are okay with it because "ghosts are different and hard to understand." In the end, I was left unsatisfied by this story. The plot either needed to be more specific or less so.
