Miguel Reyes is a twenty-year-old and is being bullied daily in the streets. At four years old, he saw his father gunned down at his birthday party. He lives in Brooklyn, New York with his mother and his younger sister Maria until something bad happens in the streets.

Miguel needs a daddy because he can’t protect himself from gangs and bullies. His mother sends him to the Jersey shore for the summer, away from the gangs bullying him. Miguel needs a daddy for the summer because he can’t take care of himself.

Shamus O’Malley, a twenty-eight-year-old bar owner, lives over his bar on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. He is too busy working day and night and has little time to date. Shamus is a daddy looking for a boy who needs love and protection.

While walking on the boardwalk, his attention is drawn to an adorable boy who is being taunted and harassed by a group of troublemakers in an alley between two stands. This boy could be the one he can love and protect.

Wonderful summer romance that becomes more

Call up some pictures of the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, NJ and look at the sun beaming down. That will give you a sense of the tone of the romance between Miguel and Shamus in this story. These two set eyes on each other as soon as Miguel arrives at a boardwalk hotel and their attraction is immediate and intense. Miguel needs to feel safe and protected and Shamus is a natural nurturer and protector and they recognize this in each other. Once these two are together, nothing and no one will ever come between them. Not that there aren't family members and exes who will try, which makes for the conflict necessary in a good romance, but it's clear they're fighting a losing battle against what Miguel and Shamus have found. The book examines the importance of money versus other , deeper aspects of a relationship, shows us a bit of the academic life Shamus and Miguel share and adds in a bit of mystery with some anonymous notes but the focus is always the joy of a summer romance that is clearly going to last. James Talbot does and excellent job with all the characters here and their differences. I particularly enjoyed his Shamus.
