About this listen

Simon "Frizz" Frizzell sneaks away to the rodeo on weekends, and it’s not until after he wins a buckle that he tells his parents about his bull-riding. He knows they won’t approve of his choice of sport, but his parents own a Christian bookstore, and he couldn’t possibly tell them the whole truth: He’s gay. And so are some of his rodeo friends, like Dante and Ryan, and Jacky - a young man he wishes could have been more than a one-night stand. When Simon sets his sights on his dreams, he finds work with Dante and Ryan, and bumps into Jacky on the job.

Jacky Douglas is a rodeo fanatic, plain and simple. He loves the ride, and he loves the cowboys. He fell hard for Frizz when they met, and theirs was a one-night stand made in heaven. When they meet again, Jacky thinks it’s a stroke of luck. Frizz takes some convincing, but once he’s on board, they begin a relationship. The fledgling romance faces a challenge when news of it travels all the way to the one place Frizz doesn’t want it to go: his parents’ bookstore.

A Daring Ride

This book was good. I was happy to get a chance to read and listen to Jackie’s book after meeting him in book one of this series. Jackie is outgoing and unapologetically gay, with no way and no reason for hiding who he is. He is just out and rightfully proud of who he is. Simon “Frizz” is an upcoming Bullrider who happens to meet, and make a connection to Jackie after a rodeo. There’s some family issues and drama on Frizz’s side which gives more complex depth to the storyline. He’s worried about coming out and “being gay”, worried that he will lose his family and friends over it. But being with a Jackie makes him realize that he really just needs to be comfortable with himself in order to be happy in life and worry less about what others think. I really liked the two of these guys together. I appreciated all of the support their friends gave them, especially the support Frizz received when he was learning more about himself and who he is as a person. This was a really solid and well put together story.

Audio - John Solo did a great job with this narration. I really liked his voices for these characters and how he brought them to life. He has a way of making sure we get the perfect emotion whenever and wherever it’s needed in each story.

What a great Ride

Would you consider the audio edition of A Daring Ride to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print but no way can you get the emotions That John Solo brings forth.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Daring Ride?

When Simon was in the hospital.

Have you listened to any of John Solo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Jon Solo is one of my favorite Narrators. I love his easy voice and passion.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A bullrider finds not only the love of the rodeo but the love of his life.

Any additional comments?

I love this series and this book was amazing!.I adored Simon and Jacky. I fell in love with Jacky in the first book and couldn't wait to see more of him and his story.
Simon is from a prominent family and a very religious one. His mom doesn't allow him to follow his dream to be a bull rider or work the rodeo circuit because she lost a brother to it. However, nothing can hold him back from his dreams. He meets Dante one of his idols and it changes his life. Dante introduces him to Jacky and they hook up, but when Simon goes to work for Dante and trains with him they are in each other's paths again.

All I can say is hot cowboys and swoon! John Solo brings so much character and passion into this story that it melted me. The sex was moderate but tasteful yet John Solo made it melting!

I can't wait for more in this series and I hope it is very soon!

Just couldn’t finish it

Starts very promisingly but then just flogs a dead horse over and over until I couldn’t bear to go on. Such potential in the characters and the setting but, oh dear, painfully repetitive and psychologically unconvincing. Pity but there it is.
