Charles Spurgeon
"The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach to-day, or else be false to my conscience and my God. I cannot shape the truth; I know of no such thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine. John Knox's gospel is my gospel. That which thundered through Scotland must thunder through England again." (C. H. Spurgeon)
A Defense of Calvinism is a classic text by Charles H. Spurgeon. This rendition is beautifully narrated by Bryan Nyman.

Starting in the very beginning, man has always recoiled at the idea God is God and free to exercise His authority over us. We recoil so heavily at the thought that Western Christianity has reconstructed God's love so that if God is to exercise greater authority in saving us than our own will, then He can't truly be capable of loving us, nor we of Him, and everything else is meaningless.
Yet, we deceive ourselves and place a barrier between ourselves and God when we dictate the terms of our relationship. Has not the Creator freedom to Create for His good pleasure? Has not the Potter the liberty to shape the clay to His own liking without the rebuke of the clay?
Spurgeon lays out basic defenses from Scripture of what Calvinism is and is not, rooting it in Scripture. While you're not going to find an exhaustive defense of every doctrine, this is a good introduction and sufficient rebuttal to the myriads of detractors who are willing to spend a couple hours listening to a well-voiced and well-argued presentation.
