Publisher's summary

Get swept away by a Regency romance of broken engagements, second chances, and stolen kisses from the author whom Publishers Weekly calls "irresistible".

After her third fiancé leaves her at the altar, Lenora Hartley is beginning to think she's cursed. One thing's for certain: She needs to escape London and her father's tyrannical attempts to find her yet another suitor. The Isle of Synne, an isolated and idyllic retreat off Britain's northern coast, is blessedly far from society's gossip, but it also carries haunting reminders of her first fiancé. Letting go of the past to find happiness seems impossible - until Lenora is thrown in the path of a gruff, mysterious blue-eyed man who makes her pulse race.

Next in line for a dukedom he doesn't want to inherit, Peter Ashford is only on the isle to exact revenge on the man who is responsible for his mother's death. Once he's completed the task, he'll return to America where his life can finally be his own. Yet when he meets the beautiful and kind Miss Hartley, he can't help but be drawn to her. Can Peter put aside his plans for vengeance for the woman who has come to mean everything to him?

Critic reviews

"First-rate Regency fun!" (Grace Burrowes, New York Times best-selling author)

"Britton (A Match Made in London) imbues her irresistible couple with impressive psychological depth, and the charming supporter characters of cunning Lady Olivia and rascally Quincy, Peter's best friend, steal every scene they're in. Readers will be hooked." (Publishers Weekly)

Good enough

This was a good enough story. Though, it got annoying that Peter had an angry voice for ev-er-ey-thing! Also, the end kind of sprung out of nowhere and then all of a sudden it was quickly wrapped up. I absolutely loved the secondary characters.

I got this on a 2 for 1 sale and felt it was worth it. Probably would have been disappointed for a whole credit, but I’m incredibly picky on what I’ll spend one credit on.

What a great listen! You will NOT be disappointed

A Good Duke Is Hard to find. (most definitely)

I enjoyed listening to this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't stop listening until I finished. Lenora was left at the altar. She was basically ruined because this was her third fiancé that left her. Her father was so angry that he has decided to arrange a marriage for her and send her to the country. She and her friend ends up going to her friend's grandmother's home on the Isle of Synne. That's where all of it began with the death of her first fiancé. Now it's where she starts the new path of her life that fate has in store.

Lenora meets Peter after his great-aunt makes him fulfill his mothers last deathbed request. Peter is to inherit a Dukedom one that he plans to destroy to get revenge on his uncle that wouldn't help him with his mother. Will love conquer revenge?

I liked the match between Lenora and Peter. The narrator did an amazing job capturing each character. The book is very well written, the author paid attention to detail and delivers. look forward to listening to the entire series. This is book 1 in the Isle of Synne Series. Do yourselves a favor and get started on this series.

Not sure about all the so so reviews — I really liked it

I thought it was just fine. I really liked it. Predictable like many of these books are and not much mystery but H and H had great chemistry and there was a bit of steam, which is a must, and I really enjoyed the listen. This was my first Britton and I will try another. I like McNab as well and have listened to her narration before for other authors. I spent a credit and don’t regret it.

I enjoyed this very much!

Lately it seems a good book with a good narrator is hard to find. I can’t say how many just put me to sleep, or I find my mind wandering and I discover I’ve missed whole chapters. I was delighted to finally find a new book that interested me, which hits that sweet spot between entertaining and interesting AND has an excellent narrator.

Definitely creditworthy!!

Ashford McNab! Love her!

One of a few books I have ever listened to where the reader is the best thing about it. Ashford McNab makes this book enjoyable for me. With any other reader I don't know that I could have gotten through it. too much angst, too much needless drama. I spent 90% of the book rolling my eyes.

Almost lost patience with these characters

Okay, we are all familiar with the he/she has a secret, or is too hurt to heal, or is too stubborn/afraid to admit they were wrong or in love or whatever, but these too went on with it so long and to such extremes I wanted to reach in and slap or shake one or the other repeatedly .....deep sigh. It was a good story, told well, though the male characters all sounded stiffer than necessary.

Too much nervous system descriptions. 🥹

Didn’t like the narration of the male voices. So forced. Sorry. The characters and story were two-dimensional. This book was recommended so I invested too much time reading / listening and then decided to just finish it. I’m sure some people will enjoy it. 🥴

Do not bother

Initially story seemed okay. Then both main characters were self-absorbed, ruminating constantly and internally wailing about their pasts. Spineless.
Irritating narrator grated on my last nerve.
Story dropped off midway and the wailing worsened. Contrived ending. Ho hum romantic scenes.
Do not bother.

very slow and just wanted it to end

Alot of inner dialogue and couldn't wait for something to happen without having to read a descriptive, colorful pages of inner turmoil of woe is me.
