About this listen

A handsome and reclusive horse breeder, Spencer Dumarque, the fourth Duke of Morland, is a member of the exclusive Stud Club, an organization so select it has only 10 members - yet membership is attainable to anyone with luck. And Spencer has plenty of it, along with an obsession with a prize horse, a dark secret, and, now, a reputation as the dashing "Duke of Midnight." Each evening he selects one lady for a breathtaking midnight waltz. But none of the women catch his interest, and nobody ever bests the duke - until Lady Amelia d'Orsay tries her luck.

In a moment of desperation, the unconventional beauty claims the duke's dance and unwittingly steals his heart. When Amelia demands that Spencer forgive her scapegrace brother's debts, she never imagines that her game of wits and words will lead to breathless passion and a steamy proposal. Still, Spencer is a man of mystery, perhaps connected to the shocking murder of the Stud Club's founder. Will Amelia lose her heart in this reckless wager or win everlasting love?

Contains mature themes.

Great story of healing from horrors

Great pairing of couple! Loved them both. I would have even like more details in spots instead of one line wrap it up quick on several occasions in the book. Worth the credit as always with this author.

My favorite Tessa Dare book.

First of all,I purchased the audio mainly because of it being narrated by Justine Eyre. She’s one of my top three readers. The other two being Mary Jane Wells and Susan Duerden.
I liked the development of the two main characters in ODWTD. Their chemistry was perfect. The story never dragged.
I just wish that the other two books in this series were narrated by Justine Eyre.

Not great, not bad...

I started this book, like all books, with expectation and hope. And, that is where I remained for the entire book. I didn't dislike it, but I just kind of kept waiting for "something" and just didn't really find it. I enjoyed it enough that I'm not disappointed, but don't feel glee at having read it.

There were a lot of reviews claiming there was too much sex. I didn't find that to be true. At least, no more than most novels of the same type. I don't know a romance novel without sex, unless it's a Christian romance I guess, but what I find is that it's less about the amount of sex that's in the story and more about how well it's written. You know the adage, "it's not quantity, it's quality." In this book it was neither here nor there for me.
Justine Eyre isn't my favorite narrator, but I also don't cringe when I see she will be narrating a book. She has a specific style and sound, like all narrators. I don't mind hers, but I am relieved to see that Rosalyn Landor will be narrating the next two in the series.

I got this book on sale for $3.14 and I feel it was worth it. Definitely would have not been pleased, however, if I'd paid a full credit on it. But then I am VERY picky on what I spend a full credit on. If the rest in the series go on sale, I would gladly listen to them.

Steamy and Delicious Story

I loved the characters, the plot, the build, the heart, the heartache, the tears, the laughter, the steamy scenes, and did I say the steeeeeeamy scenes…? I think Tessa Dare to be one of the top queens in this genre. She’s SO GOOD!!! Do it, Tessa!! Thank you for making my heart flutter.

Fine as always with Ms. Dare at the helm.

Tessa Dare is one of my favorite historical romance authors. She continues to hold her place there with this novel. Spencer and Amelia are quite the contrary pair and at times I fairly despaired how Ms. Dare would save them from themselves. However, the HEA reigned (as it should!), and I sighed happily at the end. I note, as usual, Ms. Dare has quite a way with snappy dialogue, headstrong characters and endearing plots. The summary more than adequately whet my curiosity with just enough information to have me grab the book on sale in Audible. Glad I did and again enjoyed narrator Justine Eyre bringing her own brand of drama, angst, reconciliation and love to the fore.

Great story!

Story was very well written, interesting twists in the plot. While set in England, the reader gave the duke an odd American accent. Otherwise thoroughly enjoyed the story
