About this listen

Nineteen-year-old Annabelle Worthington was born into a life of privilege, but everything changed on an April day in 1912, when the sinking of the Titanic changed her family and her world forever. Finding strength within her grief, Annabelle pours herself into volunteer work, igniting a passion for medicine that would shape the course of her life.

But for Annabelle, first love, and a seemingly idyllic marriage, will soon bring grief caused by the secrets of her husband. Betrayed, and pursued by undeserved scandal, Annabelle flees New York for war-ravaged France, hoping to lose herself in a life of service. There, in the heart of the First World War, in a groundbreaking field hospital run by women, Annabelle finds her true calling, studying medicine and saving lives. When the war ends, Annabelle begins a new life in Paris - now a doctor, a mother, her past almost forgotten... Until a fateful meeting opens her heart to the world she had left behind.

Filled with breathtaking images and historical detail, Danielle Steel's novel introduces one of her most unique and fascinating characters: Annabelle Worthington, a remarkable woman - a good woman - who triumphs against overwhelming odds. More than compelling fiction, her story is a powerful celebration of life, dignity, and courage - and a testament to the human will to survive.

The story is typical of Danielle Steel' works. Evocative, emotional and real. I loved it.

I did not want to stop

This has been my favorite book. The one thing that would have made it even better would be if a female had been reading the female lines.

Great story

First of all, I would like to say this is one of two Danielle Steel books I bought this summer to try out. I have never read her books before, but figured I would try out two different titles. The first one was "Sins Of A Mother" and then this one "A Good Woman". I listened first to Sins and although it was a distraction from my boring commute, I felt like I had made a major mistake. Eeek... I cringed at how awful it was. How predictable it was. And I know some people loved it! That's why I bought it! It was like mindlessly eating cake...U don't think... you just indulge and try to not think about what you are doing to your diet or waist line. In that case it was my mind. That book was so contrived and predictable that I felt ashamed to be spending my time listening to it. Then I came across "A Good Woman". I cannot believe the difference! I am soo impressed. I even listened after my commute was over into the evening. Then again as I got ready for work!
I feel like this is a true triumphant story about a woman who has "it all" and yet tragedy strikes. A lot. Only Annabelle has a passion for medicine and doesn't let any setback falter her crawl to her destination. I say 'crawl' because you will understand once you listen or read this book how much she has to go through to do what she is most passionate about: medicine.
I am a woman who loves a motivating story of other women persevering through tough times and conquering their goals. If you are more concerned about a cheesy romance all the way through a book, with zero hurdles, this isn't for you. But I might add .... Spoiler alert.... Do not read further if you don't want any more info!.... It does end happy and romantic! I am very happy with this selection!

My favorite Danielle Steel book so far

This was a great heart warming story and held my interest from beginning to end. I couldn’t wait to listen to it each day.

Wonderful story

The synopsis of this historical fiction sounded intriguing, but the book ended up being silly and unrealistic. The narrator did a fine job with what material she had. I know, I know, Danielle Steel is a best selling author with a horde of fans, I just am not one of them.

Not a fan of Danielle Steel
