About this listen

Paige Morris has secrets….

Her life has been filled with darkness for too long. After a terrorizing experience with her daughter's father she makes necessary changes. Redemption isn't always possible, but she hopes in time she'll achieve hers. When she is asked to foster a little girl whose parents were murdered she automatically agrees.

Alexander "Lex" Foster is battling demons of his own….

He has witnessed a lot of awful things in his life, but the gruesome murder he's assigned to investigate tops the list. The little girl he finds cowering in a cupboard breaks his heart. Solving the case becomes his top priority. What he doesn't expect is his instant attraction to the foster mother who takes in the victim's daughter.

Deception, murder, and inescapable passion….

What could go wrong? As Paige and Lex grow closer, so does the killer. After several disturbing messages Lex moves in to protect the girls. Ensuring their safety is his priority. He cannot afford any diversions; however, his growing desire for Paige may be his undoing. When the psychopath makes his move he might be too late to save them.

This is a heart-wrenching and heart-warming story of gruesome murders, abuse, trauma, love and recovery.
Lex was a police officer who is investigating a crime. He placed this young girl in the care of Paige and her daughter. Because of this, the two were thrown into each ones company regularly.
Aside from the love story that the author usually writes, this one has a social impact. The care for an orphaned kid; the care of traumatized victims, the recovery and patience for said victims , the fortitude for these victims and the list goes on. I was fully absorbed with the story. Highly recommend reading.(NOTE: Has mentions of brutal scenes which maybe triggers for abuse victims).

Mila was eight when her parents were killed. She was hiding in a kitchen cabinet, otherwise she would also have died. There were a spat of these killings, where everyone at home was murdered. Lex Foster rescues Mila the next morning, finding her in the cabinet. He brings her to her new foster parent Paige. Paige is a 2nd grade teacher, and new to being a foster parent. Turns out the killers are still out there, and Mila is at risk. Lex is their hero, and protector. Characters well developed. The narration was well done. It's not my typical sort of read/listen, but it was a nice easy-going break. Or rather as easy-going as any story with dark bits sprinkled in. I admired how the author included bits of understanding in how trauma can be processed. The narrator has a warm and soothing tone even when recounting traumatizing scenes. I definitely felt like the lead character's relationship was a bit rushed and could have had a few additional scenes showing their connection growing, adding that would have really rounded their story out. Otherwise it felt a bit Cinderella-like.

Book seven in the Heart’s Intent series, a story that held my interest as Delaney Burton narrated this story. The story is well written with drama, danger, murder, suspense, villains and romance. I enjoyed seeing Alexander “Lex” Foster, Paige Morris and orphaned Mila get a happy ending. The story was well worth listening to.

I loved this story. The tears that start in the beginning are a lot to take in but the story is great. I loved to see some of the characters from previous books that hadn't yet gotten their happily ever afters finally get theirs. This book has so much mystery that I loved following it.

Lex is a cop that is called to a murder scene, where both the husband and wife were murdered. Their daughter is missing, he finds her hiding a cupboard, his heartbreaking for her. He does not know what she has seen.

Paige had just been approved as a foster parent, when she is called by social services. The little girl's parents were just murdered. She does not expect to find the cop attractive.

The narrator did a good job but I would have preferred a male voice as well.

I don’t usually read this genre, and there were definitely times the main detective guy was 10/10 realistic in his man-ness. But boy did the narrator make me forget that.
3/5 story, 6/5 narration. Nailed it.

This is Paige and Alexander's story. Paige is asked to foster Milo after her parents are murdered. Alexander checks on Milo and meets Paige and the chemisty starts. Will he be able to keep them safe from the killer or will the killer come for Milo? Suspense is in the air and brings them closer.

Cara and Antony Gallo are murdered in their home by a half-brother that Antony didn't know existed. Their daughter, Mila, was hiding in a cupboard after hearing the voice of a strange man. The murderer assumed she was gone for the night and decided to come back to finish the job. Alex is the detective assigned to the investigation and when he finds Mila hiding and the house a bloody scene, he vows to find justice. Paige is the teacher and single mom who is providing a temporary home to Mila and when Lex meets her he feels something more. This is a wonderful story with characters that are believable and real. Since the culprit is known to the reader, the way it all folds out is satisfying and heartwarming.
The narration is excellent by Delaney Burton. Her dynamic voice, intonation and good pacing bring each of the characters to life.
