About this listen

A traumatized witness to a serial killer’s crimes is the only key to solving them in a gripping novel of psychological suspense.

After his sister disappeared, FBI consultant and psychologist Ryan Strickland spent years looking for answers in an investigation gone tragically cold. But in his work, Ryan has built a reputation for getting reluctant victims to speak. A witness has been found who can identify an elusive serial killer whose crimes reach back decades. However, Olivia, the silent and scarred young woman in Ryan’s care, isn’t telling all. Yet.

As a guarded trust develops between her and Ryan, Olivia agrees to return to the nightmare from which she fled—an isolated and abandoned farmhouse on the outskirts of town. Any evidence could lead authorities one step closer to finding the killer…and help fill in the missing pieces of Ryan’s own past.

But no one is prepared for what they find or for the unspeakable truths revealed in Olivia’s darkest memories.

I guess I like some theatrics and twists and turns. This book is way more heartfelt and way less crime oriented. Pretty slow. Performance was good

Slow and Not What I Expected but Good

Started out slow then really picked up. Then turned direction and just went to the end. Could of had a much better ending

Just okay

This was a new to me author. I was looking for a change in pace from my most recent binge of nonfiction. I decided to give The Lost Victim a chance, and boy am I glad I did. This was a fascinating story of horrific depravity following a long-time serial killer, the horrendous things he did, and the poor victims that suffered at his hands. I love the storytelling. The intricate tale spun by the author kept me sucked in from the start. I felt so much for the people in this book. The sadness, joy, panic, fear, and hopelessness...man it tore at my soul.

I honestly can't wait to read the next book in the series! i listened to book one. The narrator was incredible! I'm fairly picky about audiobooks, but the one was fantastic. I've found a new author and narrator I can wait to hear/see more from!

What a read!

This is the first book in months that I have finished listening to from start to finish. I thought the story was gripping. I gave it five stars because I might listen to it again. Looking forward to more.

Very appealing

Right when you think the case is solved (in the most depressing and disturbing manner possible), you discover there are two more hours to this book, in which not a whole lot happens except the main character’s internal monologue about being lonely (and a bizarre extended introduction of his powerful female boss and her life choices??). The dialogue was also very unnatural, more like writing than speech, so some of the conversations were cringey.

Still, was an inventive plot, if ultimately a tad upsetting. Wouldn’t mind reading another book about this main character as long as the pacing and dialogue are better edited.

PS: Though the whole plot is pretty traumatizing, if you’re a dog lover, you’re especially not going to like some parts of this story.

Weird pacing, needs editing

Horrific crimes against women perpetrated over a couple of decades. Solved by an amazing FBI psychologist with the help of a victim. Excellent crime read

Amazing FBI work
