About this listen

The new arrival of a woman named Mary Todd wedges a rift between Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed, but they must resolve their differences if they stand any chance of cracking one of the most harrowing murder cases they have ever faced.

In the winter of 1839, a sensational disappearance rocks Springfield, Illinois, as headlines announce a local man has accused his two brothers of murder. Not one to pass up an opportunity, Abraham Lincoln takes up the case of the accused with the assistance of his best friend, Joshua Speed, to search for evidence of innocence.

But just as soon as they begin, Lincoln and Speed find their friendship at grave risk of rupture as they vie for the hand a beautiful new arrival in town: an ambitious, outspoken young woman named Mary Todd. As the trial arrives, can Lincoln and Speed put aside their differences to work together for justice once more? An innocent man's life may be in the balance-and nothing is as it seems.

Reimagining one of the greatest unsolved murder mysteries from Abraham Lincoln's real-life trial cases, A House Divided is the most captivating Lincoln and Speed mystery yet from expert Lincoln scholar Jonathan F. Putnam.

I never want these stories to end!

This is the fourth book in this amazing series. This stories are engaging and believable, and always keep me guessing! I love the way Mr. Putnam has woven accurate historical people and events into his tales. I love his explanations of the real history at the end. And finally Lloyd James is probably the best narrator I have ever heard! His dramatizations make a great book grand!! I can’t wait for the next story!

Excellent Story!!

I can't wait for the next book in this series! The writing is brilliant with its careful attention to historical references being woven into the fiction. The narration is spot on and soothing to my ears.

I've listened to all 4 of the books available here in this series and have enjoyed them all immensely!

Young Abraham - Lawyer

The book revolves around the young Abraham Lincoln and his friends interact as he works as a lawyer. The cases he solves are based on ones he actually dealt with. The narrator hit just the right tone in Abe Lincoln’s voice and inflection.

Most interesting case, a well-told tale.

I'm keeping an eye out for Putnam's next Lincoln & Speed adventure. Hope it's soon!

Interesting

But seems to target young kids and then has explicit sex scenes. I enjoyed it with mixed feelings. My second or third Lincoln and Soeed mystery... my unsureness assures me they aren’t the best, but still riveting.

A little slow to start but a really good listen. Recommend it. Enjoyed the narrator.

house divided.

when I first heard this it almost sounded like a onset of the civil war. but it wasn't its pertaining to three brothers and their loyalty with each other. quite good and is more of a historical fiction.

Moves too slow for me,

I dumped out after three hours, it just moved so slow. However it could be me, I may not be in the right mode for a well thought out storyline with develop over the reading. Covid has made me that way, maybe I'll come back later
