Editorial reviews

Blurring biography and improv, Roger Guenveur's A Huey P. Newton Story delves into the conflicted life of the famed Black Panther co-founder. Newton who eventually earned a PhD in sociology, gained some notoriety for being involved in the slaying of a white police officer. Newton was eventually shot and killed by a member of another black power movement. Intimate and enlightening, Roger Guenveur Smith's performance is not to be missed. His range and humor are remarkable considering the difficult subject matter at hand.

The performance is informative and entertaining. I enjoyed every second of it. A good introduction to the man known as, Huey P. Newton.

A wonderful performance

I can appreciate the original feel the poetic manner in which it was conducted, the modern connotations and Huey’s message and understanding of America. I’d recommend this to everyone who lives in the real world. We’re dealing today, with yesterday’s issues and problems that were already identified and addressed, but not resolved. Why?

Magnificent

The performance is impeccable. It ties in a lot of Huey’s own quotes and perspective with some artistic liberties.

Extremely moving

I think maybe this was a play, and this is just the audio of it. The whole thing was a mess. I was, and am, eager for the content. Problem is, it was just a lot of noise. Still want to hear the content, but would only be listenable if they recorded this just for audio... No theater or audience. Power to the people huey's message stands!

Very confusing audio and pace.
