About this listen

Inspired by the life of the world's first woman war correspondent, Australia's Louise Mack, the most sweeping love story yet by Pamela Hart.

Italy, 1917. Australian journalist Rebecca Quinn is an unconventional woman.

At the height of World War I, she has given up the safety of her Sydney home for the bloody battlefields of Europe, following her journalist husband to the front line as a war correspondent in Italy.

Reporting the horrors of the Italian campaign, Rebecca finds herself thrown together with American-born Italian photographer Alessandro Panucci and soon discovers another battleground every bit as dangerous and unpredictable: the human heart.

A passionate and poignant love story set on the beautiful Italian coast by the best-selling author of The Soldier's Wife and The War Bride.

Pamela Hart is an award-winning author for adults and children. She has a doctorate of creative arts from the University of Technology, Sydney. Under the name Pamela Freeman, she wrote the historical novel The Black Dress , which won the NSW Premier's History Prize for 2006. Pamela is also well known for her fantasy novels for adults, published by Orbit worldwide, the Castings Trilogy, and her Aurealis Award-winning novel Ember and Ash. Pamela lives in Sydney with her husband and their son and teaches at the Australian Writers' Centre.

Critic reviews

" The Soldier's Wife was an incredible story of love and devotion, but it was also much more. It was so brilliantly written that I was drawn into the lives of Ruby and Jimmy from the first page and was left holding my breath as I devoured the rest of it, hardly able to put it down. The Soldier's Wife was heartbreaking and uplifting, and will have you on the edge of your seat with its many twists and turns." ( Inside My World blog on The Soldier's Wife)
"The attention to detail in this book dropped me right back into daily life of 1915 Sydney." ( Duffy the Writer blog on The Soldier's Wife)
"Inspired by the author's family history, this story will have you captivated from the very beginning to its compelling conclusion." ( Adelaide Matters)
"The pages just flew by. This is a book that you won't want to tear yourself away from...compulsive reading." ( Sam Still Reading Blog on The Soldier's Wife)
"This book is heart-wrenching proof that all's not fair in love and war, especially for a lone woman in a man's world." (Valerie Parv)
